Best doujin titles?

I'm only just becoming aware of the doujin scene, and I was wondering what the top five or so doujin shmups were, iyo?

From what I understand, Hellsinker and Crimzon Clover are the most respected on these boards, and other stuff like Kamui also gets a lot of cred.

What games am I missing out on? And will they all run on American PCs? I assume there's no such thing as PC region locking, right?

Hmm I don't know if people would consider this a shmup.. but I think anyone who likes shmups, will enjoy this game.

Hm, I think you've already tried the other obvious ones like Cho Ren Sha 68k, Touhou, Blue Wish Resurrection and Warning Forever, right?

Not quite top-five material, but there was also a thread, here I think, where someone was digging some quite rare 68k games. I'll link it in an edit if I happen to find it.

And there's no formal region locking in PCs. There are older platforms that need to be emulated and games that will not run properly unless you set your computer locale(or some other region setting) to japanese(not something I remember stumbling on with doujin shmups AFAIK), though.

Also tag on Eden's Aegis, Stellavanity, and the much underrated Shuusou Gyoku. I might just be crazy though since everyone else I know hates Shuusou Gyoku

Shuusou Gyoku is a little rough around the edges and has a weird difficulty curve (liek why is the stage 4 boss the hardest thing in the game) but it's still pretty enjoyable for what it is. Amazing soundtrack too, probably my favorite by ZUN. I like the sequel Banshiryuu a lot more, especially the C67 version.

Also, since it hasn't been mentioned yet, Zen Ichi is a good one. It's a really fun and fast-paced vert that hardly ever seems to get mentioned around here.

As for recommendations, yeah, Crimzon Clover all the way.

I came here to mention this since it rarely gets any attention. Takes good bits from Raiden Fighters games and mixes them with cave style bullet hell.

Crimzon Clover, BWR, CRS 68k, Hellsinker, PatriotDark, Alltynex trilogy, Samidare and StellaVanity are my personal favorites as well.
