Shmuppin on PSP
I have been using my good old psp (fat) for shmups on the go , and I would like to ask a few questions to other fellow psp users around here.
1) Is there any emulator that runs raizing games (garegga, bakraid, batrider) and 2nd gen psikyo games (gunbird2 , strikers1945 II , III etc) for psp ?
2)I have found out this latest fba4psp http://www.emucr.com/2011/04/fba4psp-20110319.html that runs ketsui , espgaluda , ddp daioujou , but once it runs it seems impossible to exit or pause the emulator , neither to game select nor psp main menu , you have to turn the psp off to exit a game. Anyone using this version and have any info on how to exit ?
3)Anyone know if there is any freeware/doujin shmups or touhou clones for psp ?
thanks

Re: Shmuppin on PSP
i don't know much about emulators, but there are a couple of retail shmups for the psp.
gradius collection, salamander, parodius, strikers 1945 plus, neo geo heroes ultimate shooting… to name a few.

Yes, i had some problems with the versions that run DDP Dai Ou Jou. I find they don't run too well and i had the problems you mentioned.
You would be better off sticking with the earlier versions that just run Dodonpachi and a few others.

Shoot, dodge, collect . . .it's the ONLY way to be !!
Re: Shmuppin on PSP
remember you would be able to run all ps1 shmups with a modified loader very well (it uses Sony's PS1 emu)

I can answer only 1 and 3 for you since 2) was already answered by another member and I do own a psp fat as well.ClessxAlghazanth wrote:I have been using my good old psp (fat) for shmups on the go , and I would like to ask a few questions to other fellow psp users around here.

1)Nope. None that are found so far. But there is Strikers 1945 II, Gunbird (as Mobile Light Force, what a lame name for a game), and Soukyugurentai. Just google it to find for their PS1 releases.
3)Nope either. This is not a PC.
If you really want to play some shmups, then I recommend the PS1 shmup library. There is Sonic Wings Special, Strikers 1945 II, and many others. There is a utility which transforms your PS1 game into a PSP eboot, but you're going to have to google it out since we are not allowed to tell you the link to it. Also, there are a lot of homebrew console emulators for PSP you can try. Again, we are not allowed to tell you the link.
Re: Shmuppin on PSP
There are also very good CPS1,2 and NeoGeo emulators for psp. Which gives you Progear, Mars Matrix, Giga Wing, 1944 (raizing, hooray!), Dimahoo, 19XX and others. Check zophar.net for those.
If anyone does find an emulator for yagawa games, I'd love to see it too, although I've more or less given up on verts (save verizontals) since the tate controls are a PITA for me.
As for doujin homebrew stuff, there isn't really anything worth playing. There are a couple of very good gba homebrew shmups, though, which you can emulate on psp.

It isn't much, but there's a couple PSN arena shooters that aren't too bad. Nothing really shmup like. Shame, that. (All the best shmups never came out here, like the Parodius and Salamander Collections, and Darius Burst.)

Please buy the Gradius and Parodius collections, they are super great.

Re: Shmuppin on PSP
And the Parodius collection has the added bonus of allowing you to cut the rate of rank increase by half. Which cuts the amount of rage quitting on GokuParo level 3 by a ton. I've been in a shmup slump lately, but I boot up Gradius 1/2/Gaiden or one of the Parodii daily.

Twinbee Portable is great fun as well.
Re: Shmuppin on PSP
The Salamander collection is worth picking up for Xexex alone.
The Capcom Classics collections have some cool shmups as well (Varth!)

Re: Shmuppin on PSP
any one have a list of all the retail PSP shmups (separated by region would be even more awesome)
Re: Shmuppin on PSP
No, but I forgot Cho Aniki Zero is a psp mini. Best gay game ever.

Re: Shmuppin on PSP
Not sure which region the OP is from, but on the EU store a bunch of Japanese imports were recently added to the PS1 classics: Shienryu, Sonic Wings Special, GaiaSeed and, as mentioned above, Cho Aniki. I presume those are all on the US store too.
As for doujin stuff, I remember seeing footage of one of Kenta Cho's games running on PSP, I think it was rRootage. Maybe some others are available too.
Neo Geo Heroes is hardly a classic, but if you're desperate for shmups on your PSP, then I suppose it might pass the time. It looks and plays a bit like the Shikigami no Shiro games, though it's probably not as good as any of them.

The Flying Hamster is a great shmup to pick up for the PSP. I've really grown to like it. the visuals aren't my usual thing, but the action is quite good.

Re: Shmuppin on PSP
On the USA region PSP 1001 series, it's possible to play some of the older PSP homebrew shmup titles (from the 2005 PSP homebrew scene) like rRootage, etc. if you're still are using the original FW of 1.50. Otherwise, you lose the ability to play them (hence another valid reason not to upgrade it).

Re: Shmuppin on PSP
Playing Gradius Gaiden on Gradius Collection/Portable is suffering
It's either dot-by-dot (screen too small) or stretch to fill the whole screen (and I hate mucking with aspect ratios). I'd much rather play on a PS1 despite lack of portability.
More importantly, lol d-pad

Those PC Engine Best Collection should also be on a must-buy list. I have a Galaxy Fraulein Yuna animu thingy that comes bundled with Sapphire. That game is raer if you want to get the actual PC Engine game, so I'm glad I get a chance to see how she flies on the PSP
