Thanks for the 411 on these new Sanwa optical flash sticks, Dave K. I'd like to grab a pair to try out sometime.
For oxtsu, are your Sanwa optical flash sticks usable with the arcade shmup PCBs?
And what's this difficultly learning curve that was mentioned on SRK about using optical flash joysticks compared to microswitched-based ones?
There is a third joystick option of using leaf-based switches (basically a silent stick setup...was common on the arcade games from the early 1980s). I do a NOS South Korean produced leaf-switched arcade stick sitting around unused.

As these are silent, you don't have the "click" to let you know that the stick has registered a movement. Some people get confused by this. I've also heard that in order to get a good shmup feeling from these, a harder spring should be used, such as the Seimitsu LS-55 or LS-56 ones. I recently bought the Toodles' SPARK which is basically a clone of the FLASH 1 PCB, but as I haven't tested it with a minty JLF yet, I can't really give it a proper review.
Thanks for your insight on this new Toodles flash optical upgrade, emphatic. It'll be interesting to read what your thoughts/opinions are about this with a minty JFL + harder spring combo setup.

PCEFX!^_~, you have a great new year. Something tells me it will involve lots of green. I'm not sure why ^_~.
If you're implying that I sell my TTI Magical Chase complete set for some major greenbacks in 2012 (which would be nice indeed), yes, I did sell it back in 2010. It was fun to play MC for the little over fifteen years that I owned it & have no regrets doing so. It was pure luck to have encountered such a complete TTI MC set but in used condition...still better than no MC Hu-Card at all.
