They do use that word a lot. Funny how a lot of Americans consider it the Queen Mother of female put-downs. I use it liberally.
"Don't you call me a bitch!". Ok, you're a cunt. Better? Watch the steam come out the ears.

An English said to me once, "My sister is a cunt... the American version."

Yeah I'd say it's considered pretty much the worst "bad word" in American English, save those more specific racial/lifestyle slurs. I remember being pretty shocked when an old friend of mine used it in all seriousness about a mutual acquaintance. Cultural programming is weird. Then I put on Trainspotting which used it almost as often as Danny McBride drops f-bombs. It was almost endearing.evil_ash_xero wrote:They do use that word a lot. Superb!
Context is everything, as some cunt said.
Naturally. I use the word 'cunt' all the time, usually in reference to blokes I find noisome or morally inadequate, but it has too much of the history of misogyny behind it for me to comfortably use it in reference to a woman - there's too much of Joe Pesci in Goodfellas or Raging Bull about it (i.e. it can be a wifebeater's word, invoked purely to put people in their place). It's the best word, but it's also potentially sickening.Ok, you're a cunt. Better? Watch the steam come out the ears.

Where I live the aboriginals use 'cunt' all the time like they don't know any other word, while the non-Aboriginals consider it the worst bad word here. I've used it sometimes to describe particularly awful people, but I don't like using it often myself.

Ahahaha, this made my day.
Personally, I've been trying to get this word back in to ordinary American swearing patterns, make it less cripplingly offensive.

Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.

In the spirit of asking about Britishisms, what's with using "muppet" as a pejorative? Or is it "moppet?" ...I won't embarrass myself by speculating.

you use "muppet" for someone who is an idiot or can't be trusted to do something alone. In the spirit of asking about Britishisms, what's with using "muppet" as a pejorative? Or is it "moppet?" ...I won't embarrass myself by speculating.
The Etymology of it is pretty interesting ::
Possibly a blend of marionette and puppet, a Muppet being operated partly like a glove puppet and partly like a marionette. This is not the only occurrence as it also originated in military slang as a derogatory term. It was coined from initial letters of "The most useless person Pirbright ever trained", Pirbright being a British army camp.
