PS3 VGA Cables?
Are there good, quality VGA cables for the PS3? If so, what would you guys recommend?
Also, how do the colors look(good, blurry, washed out..etc.)?
And does it work well with a SLG3000?

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
No, there are not, since the PS3 does not output VGA.
You can either use a color transcoder which takes the YUV signals and converts it to VGA. Or you take the HDMI signal and convert it to VGA. Using HDMI is the recommended method. If you use a HDFury the quality is excellent. HDFury1 and 3 works with the SLG3000.

No lag, no.
http://www.hdfury.com/ or all european eBay sites. eBay.com seems to have banned HDFury sales.

Wow, that's expensive.
Anything better on the 4 version, than 3?

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
You don't need a 4 and you don't need a 3. A $99 HDFury1 is perfectly fine.
The 4 adds 3D to non-3D displays. It also adds a decrypted HDMI output.

Darth Sidious: I will make it legal.
But really, how can they have digital input and digital output?

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
because from 2011 onwards, BD players aren't even allowed to have analogue HD outputs, so even HDMI to VGA/YUV conversion is technically illegal (by some dodgy license agreements). So why not take it full circle and bring on what people want anyway.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
looks like this topic's a good place to ask this.
am i understanding things correctly that, when using the hdfury (any version), whether or not the used monitor has hdcp compatibility won't matter? like it sort of adds the compatibility?

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Correct, since VGA doesn't support HDCP anyway.am i understanding things correctly that, when using the hdfury (any version), whether or not the used monitor has hdcp compatibility won't matter?
Good grief. Still what can we expect from the likes that introduce laws like SOPA and ProtectIP I guess.because from 2011 onwards, BD players aren't even allowed to have analogue HD outputs, so even HDMI to VGA/YUV conversion is technically illegal

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
Well you could use an ultimarc PS AV cable (basically outputs RGBHV) and set your PS3 to output via scart. Sadly the highest resolution that I've seen it support is only 480p. But thats still basically "VGA" resolution anyway. Though using HD TV Player software on the PS2 allows the PS2 to output virtually any VGA resolution and several refresh rate settings using the same cable. So it really is a limitation of the stock software that comes with the PS3.
I've wondered though, I have an HDFury device but I don't know how much lag that actually adds. Does anyone know off hand? (nevermind, I didn't realize that the above post about no lag was refering to the HD Fury)
Also I found it funny that when playing certain BD movies my Monitor/TV won't accept the resolution. So I have to use the HDFury to a BMI Shuttle and play it back on virtualdub. Basically the only way to play a movie is to follow the steps to pirate it.

just want to point out that this will be Sync-on-green VGA, and most TV/monitors will not accept it. A cheap extron RGB box will strip the sync out for you though.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
Well that may be true. Without looking too much into it the last 3 monitors that I purchased (two of them arcade monitors) accept the SoG. As well as the capture card through micromsoft SC-500n1. Actually now that I think about it, it may be the last 5 monitors in the house all accepted SoG. So you should be pretty safe. In my experience at least.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
Well, there IS an official PlayStation 2 VGA cable that came with the PlayStation 2 Linux Kit.Fudoh wrote:No, there are not, since the PS3 does not output VGA.

I believe it's possible to use this with the PlayStation 3 by putting the console into component video mode.
SCPH-10320 is the part number, seems to work fine with progressive resolutions.
After one myself for minimal lag on my Asus monitor.

not quite right.I believe it's possible to use this with the PlayStation 3 by putting the console into component video mode.
For the PS2, you don't need the official VGA cable. If all you want is SoG VGA output, just take a standard PS2 component cable and a add a RCA to VGA adapter (without any electronic parts). If you set the PS2 to RGB output you get RGsB when the PS2's running in 480p mode.
You would have to set the PS3 MultiAV output to RGB to get the same effect, but once you do this, the PS3 limits the output for any PS1 and PS3 games to 480i only.

it has a 480p (or 576p) option as well:
http://manuals.playstation.net/document ... utput.html
so this is only for PS2 games?
but once again, this is SoG. just like the PS2 was, even with the official Linux kit.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
No idea. Maybe for ingame screen settings (like PS2). If they'd allow Scart 480p output, they would kill of thousands of CRT TVs.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
I don't think so. the PS2 would output SoG 480p over the SCART cable if you loaded a progressive scan game with it set to RGB. remember, the composite video line just turns off in this case.Fudoh wrote:No idea. Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
I use a Moome conversion box for HDMI to RGBHV conversion (EXT-FULLHDV3 3D), although I previously used a HDFury v1.
As far as I can tell, there's no lag and I'm quite sensitive to lag.
One thing not many people mention is that gamma correction should be applied for optimal results.
Some people don't notice it, but for me gamma correction was definitely required to avoid the extremes
of too dark or washed out at the brightness extremes. I use the Box1020 but there's also the GammaX for gamma correction.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
actually one of the monitors that I used with it doesn't say SoG.
http://na.suzohapp.com/monitors/49271500.htm
However the ultimarc cable does have a chip in there to separate the sync. lm1881n. Would that also strip the SoG to regular h/v sync?

no. the sync is on the green line in this case, not c-video.shinjig wrote:actually one of the monitors that I used with it doesn't say SoG.

Re: PS3 VGA Cables?
I made my own cable w/ 3 caps on the rgb lines, run through the extron box that antron mentioned to deal with SoG, then to my 31khz vga monitor.
