Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
Hi guys 1st post.
trying to eliminate lag. Component looks a bit fuzzy, HDMI is laggy.
If I buy a HDMI to VGA will it be laggy as there is converting going on http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/HDMI-VGA-3RC ... 20bbac0d52
or should i try something like this?
http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/AV-HDTV-TV-P ... 5ad9e4516f
Any input appreciated!!! Thanks.
I saw HDFURY gamer has the hdmi to vga with built in converter, just worried that might slow the input down, but with the component out to vga will this look fuzzy as well?

Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
My cheap 50" plasma does not lag but the led sony kdl55 HX820 i bought does. its better on game mode and with all processing turned off but still noticeable in battlefield 3.
Component gives a fuzzy look, but hoping can use hdmi to vga or the av out from the ps3 to vga, but unsure of if it will work, as some posts i have seen mention you need a filter.
cheers guys

Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
The PS3 doesn't introduce anymore lag with HDMI than it does via VGA or component. It all depends on your display. My Sony (HX900 series) has the very same lag with HDMI and VGA.
The first cable you linked to (HDMI to VGA) does NOT work. Actually it doesn't ever, on any source with any display. It's simply wrong.
A HDFury converter will produce a sharper picture than using a component cable.

Ok so how is it component vs hdmi? I definitely notice the faster component but shittier quality...Fudoh wrote:The PS3 doesn't introduce anymore lag with HDMI than it does via VGA or component. It all depends on your display. My Sony (HX900 series) has the very same lag with HDMI and VGA.

Also if i use av out to me stereo and put the tv on animation mode, the lips seem to be a bit slower than the sound.
Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
usually component is exactly like HDMI when it comes to processing time. Only VGA is (sometimes) faster, since it's made for a straight PC connection with as little processing as possible.Ok so how is it component vs hdmi? I definitely notice the faster component but shittier quality...
Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
thanks for your reply, my component is much faster.
Any ebay items you have seen that will work with my set? The $599 one is tempting, only may need a male vga connector, also still tossing up between the av to vga or hdmi to vga
ever tried the optical? noticed my ps3 and tv both have the optical connection

Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
which TV do you use ?thanks for your reply, my component is much faster.
no.Any ebay items you have seen that will work with my set?
I don't understand what you want to accomplish ? If your TV's component input has faster processing than the other inputs, you should use it. It's not the source that's faster on this output, it's your TV that's faster in this input. If you go from component to VGA or HDMI you end up with the slower input again.
I''ve been using the optical out for years. As long as your TV doesn't have a built-in 5.1 decoder it doesn't matter.ever tried the optical? noticed my ps3 and tv both have the optical connection
Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
the hx820
as stated, the component looks bad - its fuzzy, and when turning it refreshes strangely
i wish to use the pc input to get better picture and hopefully without the lag from the hdmi
cheers

Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
I have a very similar Sony set. I've never used component on it, but I'm pretty (99%) sure that VGA and HDMI with scene mode "game" have the same input lag.
Have you checked if your Sony accepts HD (not VESA) timings through VGA ?

no that was one of my questions i guess, any idea how?Fudoh wrote:I have a very similar Sony set. I've never used component on it, but I'm pretty (99%) sure that VGA and HDMI with scene mode "game" have the same input lag.

Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
connect a PC or notebook and just try 720p60 and 1080p60. The Sony does not accept 50Hz on the VGA input.no that was one of my questions i guess, any idea how?
Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
So you have never tried component but have told me that the lag will be the same. Considering I have tried it and there is a huge difference I am going to go ahead and say you are full of shit.Fudoh wrote:I have a very similar Sony set. Please dont reply any more.
Thanks

How embarrassing ...
Fudoh is one of the most informed and helpful people around.
You'll find his web guides an interesting read; http://www.hazard-city.de/. Post and read a bit more on this and other forums and you'll get to know, a pm apology will be probably be polite, he's only trying to help.
You'll also notice (despite being very good) English is not his first language.
His advice is pretty much spot on here, it is a little hard to know exactly which route to take: many tvs being different and manufacturers are not often forthcoming when it comes to input lag.
As to your problem, have you tried any other devices on component @720p, or any other cables? Or are you connecting at 1080i on component - if so any difference between the tv's handling of 720p and 1080i on component? I can't help thinking that unless the cable is faulty or there's some 1080i issue, you wouldn't expect the component picture to be as odd as you describe... although that doesn't mean it simply is... Do both tvs look fuzzy with that component lead or just the sony?
As to hdmi conversion to vga [with audio break out?] can be a tricky business and you'll want to confirm what vga signal you're best working with before investing in that business.
Component to vga is often easier; but then it's 720p and a case of making sure that component cable is working fine, otherwise you'll be converting a bad signal anyway.
As mentioned, hdmi in > vga out solution would probably be hdfury...

Re: Anyone reduced lag by using a PS3 -> VGA cable?
sorry mate
just dont like it when people tell me there is 99% differennce between component and hdmi when I noticed a HUGE one.
Yes i tried all hdmi audio/video only settimngs all 720, 1080 combos
also component 576, 720, 1080i/p
1080i fastest but graphics break up, 1080p ghosting
plasma tv not laggy at all same connections
ordered two cheap hdmi/rca - > VGA as a final test
good point will see if 1080ivs p on plasma has same ghosting, only test left
BTW - your english is verry good fedor
