NES/VG music covers?

Post by burgerkingdiamond »

I don't know if it's worth a thread, but post your favorites.

Really I just want to share this Acoustic Faxanadu cover. It's fucking awesome. Makes me want to take a nap (in a good way).

I've loved both of these pensively rocking little Guardian Legend OC Remixes long time.

Heard this one?

I'm not a big fan of most NES stuff myself but I love The Guardian Legend. Balls-hard game for me though.

Has anyone covered Journey to Silius yet? it's a crime that game has gone so long without any remixes.

Nice, Compile tunes in Tecno Soft style. The guy clearly loves his Hyakutaro Tsukumo. COSMO BABYLON

There's definitely been a few over the years on OC Remix and elsewhere. I always seem to prefer the original NES chiptunes though. Sunsoft are in the God tier of NES soundtracks. This DOD cover of the boss theme is pretty good.

I wish Silius had been released as a Terminator game like planned. The soundtrack is some stirring "storm the fences and smash those metal motherfuckers" stuff but you play as some anime poof instead of Kyle Reese and his sawed-off. :o

All these remixes are great. I especially like the Mega Man 6 and Ninja Gaiden songs.

yeah, Basilisk Run (aka Ninja Gaiden 4-2) is fucking awesome. Probably the best VG song ever. That's an odd remix, but good.

Kind of the opposite of what's been posted thus far, but a buddy of mine has some 8-bit versions of a few VG tracks he's done in Famitracker on Youtube:

I've been trying to get into Famitracker for a bit. I made a cover of Subversive Awareness from Battle Garegga in it and it sounds decent. I'd post it but I don't know a good screen recorder that actually picks up sound. Everything just gives me an error or something.

I recommend SnagIt. It's what I use for recording screens, as FRAPS is a performance hog and PlayClaw's been renowned for having seriously obscure issues like *not even doing its job* or not recording sound on machines. If you just want the audio though Audacity can certainly record whatever's playing though and that has no cost to it.

If you haven't heard of Smooth McGroove, check out his Youtube channel:

All acapella arrangements of various vg tunes. This guy is really talented.

He's not though. He records single samples and then just sequences it. If you try to match up the screens to any of the actual voices, you'll have a hard time ever making even one match.

<S.Yagawa> I like the challenge of "doing the impossible" with older hardware, and pushing it as far as it can go.

A remix of the best track from Kirby's Dream Land 3, the music for the iceberg levels: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7FgsHRAUj9c

It's a remix, but the original may be even better: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k49tPAcsR54
