Who knows if/when this will be done, but the demo is nice. Take a look.
Does anyone know of any other really good fan remakes? I would like to see more 8 bit games and GB games redone in 16 bit style.

Re: Metroid 2 fan remake
I always thought that Super Mario Bros. remake with the different characters was cool ...
Ah here it is: Super Mario Crossover
This new version even has the Sophia III from Blaster Master

Re: Metroid 2 fan remake
I wish that Metroid II remake used the original ROM as a map, but judging by the banner it doesn't seem to. That would have been even cooler.
Re: Metroid 2 fan remake
There's SMBX - a fan SMW engine, which I think has remakes of the NES marios.
Better, though, are probably the commercial remakes - Super Mario Allstars, SMB Advance series, Megaman - The Wily Wars (16-bit MM1-3 for Genesis).
There's a great MM7 remake in 8-bit for PC. A Zelda 1 remake with 16-bit graphics that I haven't been able to hunt down. I think it's a remake and not a romhack.
Rockmen R is a doujin MM fangame -- my pc won't run it for whatever reason, so I don't know exactly how it plays.
Romhacking.net is a good place to start for "improvement" hacks that only update sound & gfx. E.g., Metroid 2 has a bunch of colorizer mods. If you hunt around you can probably find lots of 8-bit games remade with the 16-bit engines of their sequels. Some are pretty well done.
I ran across an NSMB (NDS) hack that remade SMB1 & Lost Levels that looked pretty good.

Hey, maybe Nintendo will pick this up as a cool remake and publish it. It'll be like Metroid Zero Mission, but for Metroid 2!
Haha, who am I kidding. C&D letters for everyone!

Yes, get the demo while you can, perhaps. Runs pretty good for now, really only issue is just regarding in-game options (not main menu) and perhaps adjusting the scroll speed when changing rooms (no slow-down/speed-up business). This reminds me of a time when there was supposed to be a Metroid Prime 2D incarnation, same for Ocarina of Time 2D. Those were the days, no demos and no updates for eons, hell - no completion either! Hopefully this gets done as it's nice to run Metroid 2 with a map in-game as opposed to making your own as you go along.Udderdude wrote:Hey, maybe Nintendo will pick this up as a cool remake and publish it. Re: Metroid 2 fan remake
Nintendo pretty much never serves C&D letters for fangames. I can only think of one instance out of how many fangames?
Anyway, this has already been out forever and will never be released, thanks for getting my hopes up.

IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Kids with an interest in art sometimes put a piece of tracing paper over a picture they like and "draw" their own copy. The ones with talent start making their own art before too long, taking influence from earlier artists, but making unique works.
The guy the OP linked to is still in the tracing phase. The only places you can get praise for scribbling over someone else's art are preschool and the Internet.

Still waiting on the Crystalis remake.
While I'm dreaming Faxanadu would be nice too.
