Armored Core V- PS3/360

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I have never played a single Armored Core game. The reviews seem to go down and down, since the PS games.

But since From merged with Bamco, it seems like they want to shake things up, with this one. I'm hoping that some of the "Souls" quality rubs off a bit on it(despite having different directors). There are also "hands on previews", that seem quite positive.

This one is supposed to be more streamlined, less confusing, and more action oriented. That sounds good, despite never having played ANY of them.

Here's a gameplay trailer, and also an article about the "new" style they're going for.

Probably getting it because I don't have any AC games, liked Dark Souls and have played many other mech games. Didn't like the 4A demo for some reason (felt clunky and confusing) but this sounds worth getting :)

I just watched some demoplay of this game yesterday, and I have to tell you after having played everything from AC1 up to Last Raven, things went downhill in the series after AC3 and Silent Line. Nexus, Nine Breaker, and Last Raven were beyond frustrating for their own reasons and definitely were not as good as the AC games before them.

AC5 looks like an awesome change of pace with faster mechanics than what I'm used to, and the neat looking mode where you order a team around a map acting as an operator to eliminate your targets. Needless to say I will probably get it after I get AC4 and AC:FA pretty cheap and play through those first now that I have a 360 since this past weekend.

Don't worry about it. You can travel from the Milky Way to Andromeda and back 1500 times before the sun explodes.

Yeah, that's what I'm questioning. Bamco published the western versions of Dark Souls, they didn't make it. Probably the same deal here.

ACV looks to be taking a ton of online elements from From's -outstanding- Chromehounds.

I'd heard that ACV would be somewhat slowed down but the trailer makes it look pretty fast (though not as fast as AC can be i guess)

I'm well up for the game - i rank Chromehounds as still the best game i've played this gen (online! once the servers were taken away the game goes back to being pretty flat offline) so i've high hopes for this.

I really enjoyed 4 and For Answer so I've been looking forward to this. But those two were already pretty fast and intense, watching that video makes me worry they'll over do it.

Unfortunately I see this meeting the same fate as Chromehounds. It's pretty much multiplayer-only, so the disc becomes a frisbee when they shut down the servers.

Demon Soul's servers are still running. If the game has enough followers I see no reason for the servers to get shut down...thinking optimistically. ^_^

The trailer reminded me of this, actually.

I'd love to play the newer Armored Cores, but sadly the western 360 versions are locked to western systems.

Wait, my point was that VOOT is very fast but is still a great game. You think it's bad? :o madness

Not expecting AC to be similar, just joking around.

So, this won't be a good single player game?

was in relation to Sega killing the Chromehounds servers relatively early, whilst Namco seem to keep them up much longer :)

They've stated that Demon's Souls is going offline sometime next year. They originally weren't even planning to extend it through 2011. Thankfully the game is a lot less online-dependent, while ACV will take place almost entirely in massive team battle fragfests. It's clearly an attempt by From at giving the Chromehounds formula a second try, which could easily backfire just the same.

I also have to add that ACV's framerate looks ridiculously bad, and I'm sure there's huge amounts of screen tearing. This was a problem with AC4 and FA as well, so I'm not too confident they'll have it cleaned up for release. Maybe they can tone down the glitchy viewscreen flashing at least?

You do know the Armored Core series also has a pretty involved singleplayer element? Granted, most of it is arena fights, but people enjoy that.

Speaking of which, I need to play an AC game at some point.

ACV will change all that. This time the focus is almost completely on multiplayer.

Nine Breaker already had a strong multiplayer bent, the difference being its lack of online play.

I always liked the idea of Chromehounds but didn't get it because I don't have a gold account. I'll be disappointed if it's the same deal with ACV. For Answer's mission mode had some neat things going on and I was hoping they'd expand it. What do we know about the single player?

All we know about single-player is that there's a campaign. I wouldn't be surprised if it's just a bunch of multiplayer battles with bots and story dialogue, and some bosses thrown in.

I'm wary of From's claims that they've simplified the mechanics--hopefully this just means they've streamlined customization and made it easier to understand. I wouldn't want combat to devolve into endless circle-strafing. There's some extremely powerful one-hit-kill attacks that are supposedly very hard to use, but you know there's going to be at least one that's broken.

Makes me wonder when in 2012, when will AC5 be released?

I've bought into the AC franchise ever since it's debut on the PSX platform, later making the transition to the PS2 platform and finally both the PS3 & 360 platforms. Required two copies of PSX AC + two PSX consoles + link-up cable accessory + two TVs for head-to-head matches back in the day. Expensive but well worth it if you wanted to play such heated matches.

Gameplay was even better if you had access to one of those huge tabletop PSX dual analog controller setup for two handed functionality + handy hat switch option (precursor to the original PSX Dual Shock controller). Plus you could use it as a flight stick controller (or even as a driving controller also) for certain old-school PSX games that had built-in support for it.

Not to mention getting some of the cool Kotobukiya produced AC plastic model kits ever since their debut back in late 2006 with the highly touted "Variable Infinity" poseable joints...plently of awesome swapping of custom parts & weaponry to make your own custom AC model indeed. Even comical Super Deformed (SD) variant plastic model kit versions of the AC series have been released as well. Of course AC5 model kits will, eventually, be released to the general public internationally. It's a given.

Coming out Jan. 26 for Japan, Mar. 20 for the US. Demo on the 21st this month.

It'll have...oh my god...Gamestop-exclusive preorder DLC that gives a competitive advantage in multiplayer. I'm sure From Software had nothing to do with this.

I'm still working on Master of Arena, so I'm a little behind. But's it's still a game with robots, so I encourage interested people to purchase it.
Why is it called the Vic Viper/Warp Rattler? Because the Options trail behind it in a serpent-like fashion, and the iconic front fins are designed to invoke the image of a snake's fangs.

Those upcoming AC-5 plastic model kits should be ace, especially the ones produced by Kotobukiya.
