What good games came out this year?

I was looking through my collection, and realized that most of what I got this year was rereleases and HD remasters.

So, of the NEW quality games I got, that came out this year, I can only think of 2.

Dark Souls(GOTY...despite frame rate, and weak ass ending(s))
Rayman Origins

That's pretty weak.

Now, I know those who like more American style games, got Skyrim, Gears Of War 3, the new Batman game, Uncharted 3, and Modern Warfare 3. I'm not into that, so whatever. But big money makers there.

Wii got the new Zelda.

Anything I'm missing? I feel like I was just playing lots of HD versions of games I own already, and Dark Souls, and Rayman(which was a pleasant surprise).

What else?

Dark Souls is definately my GOTY.

First game that got me excited since I was 12, when Metal Gear Solid 2 came out. Still need to pick up the HD collections...

For what it´s worth I think it´s best played that way, and I know several people that had a similar experience so maybe you are not at a loss.

As for the OP I agree with you, this has felt as a year of sequels, rehashes, and HD ports, though I liked Forza 4, Deus Ex HR and RAGE. I´ve yet to play Zelda SS, but I´m not feeling it based on numerous impressions. Oh and I´m tempted to get a 3DS, as I kind of want to play Shinobi and Super Mario 3D Land.

EDIT: Forgot about Shadows of the Damned and Catherine. Those are great.

Child of Eden and Dark Souls from what I've played. Skyrim is probably good as well :p

Too bad DICE made a lot of stupid decisions with Battlefield 3 and released it unfinished (woah, what a surprise), was expecting it to be one of my favorites of the year.

Has there been any game released in the past few years that was finished?
It seems everything nowadays is patched a handful of times before the (majority of) kinks are worked out.

Stuff by Platinum Games pretty much, heh. Vanquish could've used some more extras/modes though. Could've been a classic if it had some sort of score attack/time attack mode.

2011 was pretty much just another year that saw mainstream gaming continue its descent into casual pandering and rehashes. Been pretty sweet for shmup fans though.

Dark Souls, Catherine, Child of Eden, Hard Corps Uprising, and Bangai-O HD have been my highlights so far, along with the usual shooters and fighting games (ie. Cave, Strania, Marvel, and KoFXIII). Not the best year ever, but I'm satisfied.

Uncharted 3... but I wouldn't touch it without playing the others first.

Arkham City too, but I bought Arkham Asylum and haven't even installed it.

This game is great fun, although technically a 2010 release. It's really a step above Rorona in terms of character and enemy models. I'm also really glad that Asami Imai voices Ceci, her voice is so distinguishable. I've played through Rorona twice and I have a feeling I'm going to really enjoy playing through this too. Niche as hell, and not necessarily everyone's bag with item collecting, but still fun.

I did t buy a lot of games this year, but Disgaea 4 has been easily my most played game this year. Still too early in Skyrim to really say how good it is one way or another, but I'm enjoying it so far. Forza 4 is pretty good too.

I haven't playing anything recent lately, but there are a few that look interesting. Portal 2 came out this year and I heard it turned out very well (I just beat the first one recently and loved it). Skyrim, Gears of War 3, Batman Arkham City, Little Big Planet 2, Kirby Mass Attack, Kirby's Return to Dream Land, Skyward Sword, Super Mario 3D Land, Shinobi 3DS, and Solatorobo are all games that look interesting to me.

This went under the radar. This one looks interesting too.

SpaceChem, Rayman Origins, Frozen Synapse, Hard Corps: Uprising, Might & Magic: Clash of Heroes HD and Anomaly: Warzone Earth are some of my favourites. Bulletstorm was better than I was expecting based on the ad campaign. Just bought Portal 2 in the Steam sale and might pick up Dark Souls and The Witcher 2 on sale as well.

No mention of Oblivion? I can see it not being GOTY for a number of you here, but not including it in a list of good games that game out this year is more a comment on this forum than the game.

C'mon guys, a little mainstream won't kill you.

Edit: And yeah, another vote for Dark Souls from me.

The Witcher 2 would be my vote for GOTY. Somewhat buggy at release but it's a damn good game now.

Skyrim and Dark Souls don't trail far behind though.

Oblivion came out in 2006. The only related release was the 5th Year Anniversary Edition.
