Eightarc Arcade Sticks

Post by Cyarc »

I've been looking at getting a high quality stick for awhile now. Got a cheap poor quality stick about 2 years ago. Really wasn't a step up from what I was using before, which was a sega saturn pad. Stumbled across this beaute tonite (http://eightarc.com/ps3-onyx) and was intrigued. Anyone out there have experience with it? I play a couple fighting games everyone now and then but I don't care how its performance with them, I am getting this 100% purely for shmups. Just wanted to see if there are any opinions out there before I make the plunge.
What are you trying to tell me, that I can dodge bullets?

I've got two PS3 arcade sticks:

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 - has the stock Hori push buttons installed at the factory (but can be swapped with the better Sanwa or Seimitsu push buttons for increased responsiveness).

and the

Hori Real Arcade Pro 3 SA variant - all arcade parts including the joystick & push buttons are Sanwa brand (hence the "SA" (Special Addition) added to the RAP 3 moniker). Very nice RAP arcade stick indeed for your fighting and/or shmupping needs.

I'm not sure about those Eightarc produced sticks -- sounds like they're world-class with the arcade Sanwa parts included from the get-go. Can't go wrong with either Sanwa or Seimitsu parts. Your shmup/fighting sessions will naturally be better with an all-Sanwa or Seimitsu arcade stick setup compared to your previous PS3 arcade stick if it's of a lower quality/grade. You get what you pay if deciding to go the cheaper route versus paying more for a higher quality arcade stick setup with geniune Japanese arcade-spec parts installed at the factory.

I've got a modded Dreamcast Agetech arcade stick with the stock Ascii arcade parts swapped out for all Seimitsu arcade parts and it's a world-class arcade stick (with a solid weighted base that won't budge during heated shmup sessions). Is further modded for use with my DC console & supergun use as well (with a transcoder box setup). Only minor issue is no auto-fire capability from the get-go (but by using an external Jamma auto-fire PCB works wonders when used between said supergun/candy cab and said booted-up arcade PCB, that auto-fire issue is resolved instantly/goes away).

Plus with the additional benefit of using either PS3 RAP setup on a PC to play your favorite Mame/Mame32 shmups, they serve quite well as a dual-purpose arcade stick for PS3 & PC platforms indeed.

They are partnered with qanba which has been doing good sticks for a while. Their ps3/xbox stick seems to be a reasonable price compared to getting a TE modded. SRK might have more info.
