Phantom Breaker and Ougon Musou Kyuko X (Xbox 360)

Post by stryc9 »

I tried searching for these games here but no luck, so here it is! I thought I would combine both games into one thread as interest is bound to be fairly limited, but I was interested as to if anyone picked either of these fighters up and their accompanying thoughts.

Ougon Musou is based on Umeniko and is a conversion of the PC doujin fighter. It has some of the best 2d graphics around, with awesome hand-drawn stages and generously animated characters. It is 2 on 2 tag team based, but is quite an interesting take on the formula.
Phantom Breaker on the other hand has kinda shit graphics and limited animation, but the fighting engine has some different things going on, for example there are no joystick commands , which sounds lame yet some of the fights I've had have been quite impressive despite this :)

It's good to see whats happening with the evolution of 2d fighting outside of the big budget MvC3s and BlazBlues...

Ah, yeah, I have Ougon's PC version. It's great.. for a doujin game. It's nowhere near as deep as the likes of BlazBlue or SF, but it's still fun, and the music is fantastic. Online netplay is also pretty nice too.

I played the 360 demo when it first came out, it's decent but it's really just a quick and dirty port, upscaled from the doujin version. It's also region-locked, so the netplay window is very very small. I'd pick it up if I saw it on sale though.

Phantom Breaker is terrible.

I believe the 360 port of Ougon Musou has a couple of extra characters, but yeah, it seems like a quick and dirty conversion in a way; only the most basic selection of gameplay modes etc. but this being a doujin just blows me away in terms of presentation. I'm finding the tag play quite interesting as it aims to be a bit more strategic in terms of how it's been implemented than is usual.
Interesting what you said re: game depth compared to BlazBlue, possibly you're right but I need to play a fair bit more Vs before I make any concrete decision.
I like BlazBlue, but what I'm enjoying about this is that Tager's not in it 8)

Jury's out on Phantom Breaker. It's not a serious fighter, but then again it's not Powerstone either. I've had some pretty good fights on this with some crazy counter/reflect shit going on.
It could be better than MvC3 though :?

Or maybe not.

I have phantom breaker. I bought it with Arcana Heart 3 and liked it tons more than AH3.

I plan to get Ougon but once the price is right.

well AH3 is kinda slow, although the game is improved now the Homing button and the Arcana buttons are separated. It also costs nothing in terms of spirit gauge to use Homing anymore (except to follow an airborne opponent). Despite the improvements I still can't decide whether or not I really like AH, and I've been playing it since 2008. It's a pretty deep game with a lot of combo potential, yet still some of the Arcanas seem stupid to me.

Back OT: Phantom Breaker is fun but it goes in the 'non-serious' pile for me. I will have to play more Ougon Musou before I make a judgement on that. So far Melty Blood AA and Fate Unlimited Codes seem stronger to me.

To be honest I play 3SOE more than any of the current gen fighters.

Im hoping for a new Guilty Gear & will probably pick up CS Extend even though I'm not a fan of BoringBlue.

You guys have Ah3 but haven't vs me in the game? Ah but I'm guessing you guys are in euro.

OT: Phantom Breaker is pretty lousy from the demo, same with Ougon Musou.
Espgaluda III needs to happen.
