Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
So, coming out next month, is this a sequel to Project Diva 2 or more of an expansion? I haven't got any of the other Miku games, so I thought I'd start out with this, but as far as I can see, they have only announced 30 or so tracks so far. Should I be getting Project Diva 2 aswell?

Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
Hatsune Miku may be the most pathetic, disgraceful, godwaful piece of shit ever marketed as "music". It is simply intolerable. It sucks more than Crazy Frog, the Chipmunks, the Teletubbies, and Rebecca Black put together. To listen to it is the clearest symptom of a terminal case of bad taste.
So... no, I don't think you should get that game.

Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
Sounds like a sequel from the Play-Asia description. Will have to research it later. Project Diva 2 is definitely worth a purchase. I don't own it quite yet, but it's really a very good rhythm game. Got a PSP and soft modded it maybe 2 or 3 months ago, and it is about time I start making a few game purchases. I would really enjoy a PS3 port of one of these games.
PS: I can't stand vocaloid but still enjoy the games. The voices are so irritating to me.

Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
extend is sort of a quasi-sequel; the way things went, it sounds like they just wanted to continue releasing new content for Project DIVA 2nd as DLC, but then the Japanese PS Store sort of stopped existing for over a month. Consider it a lower-priced version of Project DIVA 2nd with a different songlist.
Speaking of which, there will be a lower priced version of Project DIVA 2nd coming the month after extend, which is also reported to have extend's additional modules (costumes) and a tweaked Help system.

I dunno about using Miku or whatever, but the English Vocaloids are pretty good if you want a robot singing voice [I used one in a track once, that I sadly don't have anymore].ZenErik wrote:PS: I can't stand vocaloid but still enjoy the games. The voices are so irritating to me.
Come check out my website, I guess. Random stuff I've worked on over the last two decades.
Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
I don't mind vocoded vocals in the right context, and I think Vocaloid can be used well. Susumu Hirasawa uses a vocaloid well on the Paprika soundtrack. Before I read up on it I figured it was just some vocoded and heavily processed woman's voice. But hearing those voices all the time and through a whole song just annoys the heck out of me.null1024 wrote:I dunno about using Miku or whatever, but the English Vocaloids are pretty good if you want a robot singing voice [I used one in a track once, that I sadly don't have anymore].ZenErik wrote:PS: I can't stand vocaloid but still enjoy the games. Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
I've posted my thoughts on the matter in another thread, but to reiterate - I think the Vocaloid technology is quite impressive (and should only get better with time - Hatsune Miku is running on Vocaloid2 and Vocaloid3's release is fast approaching). It's a fantastic enabler for people who want to create music but lack the means to hire human vocalists, which I think is a big part of the reason why it's as popular as it is. Immediately dismissing the efforts of people who happen to use a Vocaloid rather than a human vocalist is IMO doing the creative types sharing their efforts a great disservice when for the most part they worked just as hard to create their music as those privileged enough to have connections to human vocalists.
Also, back on topic: even if you don't like the music (and hopefully you have the courtesy to not belittle others for not sharing your opinion), it's a pretty fun game regardless.

If you have Project DIVA 2nd, you can buy the Dreamy Theater 2nd add-on for PS3 - you'll need to link your PSP to your PS3 at least once to activate it, but once that's done you have access to all but one song from the first Project DIVA and all the content you've unlocked on Project DIVA 2nd. I've streamed a fair bit of gameplay from Dreamy Theater 2nd if you're interested. I also have this test cap that tries to present the game at its full 720p 60fps (and fails at points, sadly).ZenErik wrote:I would really enjoy a PS3 port of one of these games.

Does it matter that I don't have a legitimate copy of the game when it comes to setting this up? I plan on grabbing one soon.

If you can't stand Miku's vocals but are still interested in the songs, try supercell's Today is a Beautiful Day. They're supercell's works sung by a real singer.
I have this album and it is excellent.

I cannot stand people that love Japan to the point they listen to the music and oh shit I'm doing a Japanese degree at college!1

Re: Hatsune Miku: Project Diva Extend
I wouldn't go as far as some others have, but I don't find Miku's voice to be as enjoyable to listen to as a real vocalist's. Rather than being outright bad, it actually suffers the most from the "uncanny valley effect", in my opinion. It's not quite good enough to accurately model the subtlety and emotion of a human voice, but it's not garishly artificial enough to be entertaining in the same way that electronic music is, either. That may eventually change with advancing technology, but it hasn't really impressed me yet.
I think a lot of people like it for the "cute factor" and the novelty of it. For example, Miku enables listeners to entertain their fantasy of having a petite Japanese girl be the vocalist for their favorite metal band (in a limited capacity), i.e. something that would never happen in real life.

Hey, there's also Yellow Magic Orchestra and Sakamoto Ryuichi (who has done some decent film scores). And don't forget Japan, the 80s New Romantic band (whose lead singer coincidentally worked with Sakamoto)

Yes, you need a JP PSN account to purchase and download DT2nd and unlock keys to any DLC you've purchased for PJD2. You can play it with whichever account you want the trophies on once it's downloaded.ZenErik wrote:Thanks. I will check out the video when i get home. I assume i will need to set up a JP PSN account? It's not supposed to work without a legitimate copy of PJD2 (the linker works by verifying the integrity of your save file).
