Putting this in here since it's more relevant for our East Coast US members.
Just as I was griping in the Trading Forum about GameStop being the only place in town, a retro games shop has just moved in! It's in the Town Mall of Westminster, MD and is called "Save Point". Pretty much a little hole in the wall place. As you might imagine, they carry older generation games and consoles. I saw Genesis, GameBoy, GBA, PS1, PS2, Saturn, Gamecube, Sega CD/32x, SNES, N64, and Dreamcast games there, along with several older consoles. Lots of classic titles. Prices were fair - they knew how much the games were worth and charged market price for them. The condition of the games varied quite a bit. Many were media only (cart games especially), some cracked cases, pretty much what you would expect of used games.
There was also a wall of X360 game stations set up with a bunch of the more recent/popular X360 titles on pay-to-play, mostly FPS stuff.
They had a free TV or two to hook up your own game/console (Futari, anyone?).
Finally, they had a few arcade cabs set up - old school wooden cabs. At the moment, they had Gradius on free play, Magical Drop II (and some other games on the same PCB?) for 25c a credit, a Pump It Up machine, and Galaga (for real this time, although it's not working at the moment). I think they had some other PCBs in the back. I talked with the owner briefly, and I think it's a JAMMA setup. I have a feeling that if you brought one of your own PCBs in, they would probably be amenable to setting it up for play.
I think we should show them a warm welcome sometime and bring the love of shmupdom to their store. I, for one, am pleased to see that classic games are still being appreciated, and would like to see this store remain in business, haha.
