Re: Xotic, FPS with shmup style highscore
I discovered this earlier today as well. Didn't buy it, though the price wasn't bad and it looked interesting, for I watched this Youtube video where I found you can upgrade your weapons and character (permanently, it looks like, not just for that run), which kind of turned me off. Made me think that there's little point in doing score attack before you have everything maxed out, which would be pretty dumb.
But like I said, I didn't buy the game, maybe I got the wrong impression. A demo's supposed to come out next week so hopefully that'll clear it up, unless someone here can shed light on the matter first.

I watched some videos on Steam earlier in the week, saw lots of shooing little red balls with some bonuses for doing trickier stuff like mid-air combos. I dunno, I hope there's more to it than that. If a demo gets released I'll take a look though.

Yeah same here im gonna wait for the demo. (PC demo not xbla)
It does seem that the notion of highscore is starting to catch on in the west. Even if the game sucks in some way, the next game to build on it might be much better.
All we can do is provide feedback to the devs and tell them where they went wrong.
BTW looking at the low number of comments it seem that most folk here arnt intested in FPS games even ones with score

This looks pretty cool! I'd love to see more arcade concepts make their way into FPS games.
Humans, think about what you have done
Re: Xotic, FPS with shmup style highscore
I watched the trailer video on Steam. I think he shot at an actual enemy once the entire time, and it died near instantly. Seriously lame.
Re: Xotic, FPS with shmup style highscore
i think its a cool idea but i think the idea of shooting at balls on the walls looks kinda lame
this is the video i saw

Demo's out now. I think the basic mechanics are mostly decent (keeping a combo going by destroying the red balls, finding secrets, grabbing the point multipliers, etc) but the upgrade system killed my interest. The jumping also feels oddly floaty and unnatural.
Cool idea, but could use some tweaking. Would be pretty cool to see more short FPS games with a focus on scoring.

The Club is a great score-based third-person shooter. The game is a bit old so it should run on most computers nowadays. There's a demo available if you look around.Ghegs wrote:Would be pretty cool to see more short FPS games with a focus on scoring.
Resident Evil Mercenaries also fits the bill nicely.

The Club I have (PC version from Steam) and I think it's quite nifty. Something Caravan-loving shmuppers could easily get into. Been meaning to record some scoring footage from it.Ruldra wrote:The Club is a great score-based third-person shooter. The game is a bit old so it should run on most computers nowadays. For sure. RE5 mercenaries is pretty much better than the whole main game and very fun to score attack with a friend.Ruldra wrote:Resident Evil Mercenaries also fits the bill nicely.
