Gears of War 3

Post by DragonInstall »

Anyone else into this series? Such a fun game and I can hardly wait to finish the trilogy with my cousin. It's been 3 long years since the second game and all the reviews say part 3 is way better.

Ive never played this series, Im not a big lover of cover based shooters. Space Marine seems to be a much better game from what video ive seem of it. Its similar to GoW but instead of hiding in cover you have to wade into a mass of baddies as with big guns and chainsaws

I enjoyed the first Gears, have the second, have never played it. I'm sure it's good...but the 3rd one is pretty low on my list.

I am guilty.

Had this sitting here for 3 days and I haven't even put it in yet! Thanks for the reminder, will get on it tonight. I love Gears, so I'm really looking forward to banging through the campaign on this.

Can you buy 1 month of Gold account too btw? Or is that not an option?

I'm a fan though , liked the first one and absolutely loved the second one bar the ridiculous end " Boss " .

If you're really feeling stingy, creating a new Live account usually gets you a free month's trial of gold.

...This is why my early 360 xbla purchases are all spread out across different accounts and now I have to constantly jump b/w them since I got a new console and fudged up the transfer thing.

Yeah, I'm not signing up to a gold ac. again, so I'll probably do that. Just want a bit of MP action and then I'll sell it.

This has gotten really good scores across the board which is really surprising. Really enjoyed the co-op campaign in the first one, second one was a bit meh at times (end boss :?). Looks like this is a good step up.

I liked part 1. I bought it again after playing through it on my cousin's console. I plan to eventually get 2 and inevitably part 3.

I'll be picking this up Monday night. How do you guys have it early? Unofficial release?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

played and completed part 1 and 2 but played alot more of pt1 even a bit of mp but ill be honest i got tired of the mp it was all about rushing into the middle of the map trying to get the boomshot and the torque bow before the enemy, never got around to trying pt2 online since i cancelled my live membership too. I'll probably pick up pt3 for the campaign to see it conclude,

Didn't care too much for the mainline in GOW2 but quite enjoyed it in GOW1.

GOW2 was all about Horde mode in our house - the Wife , brother in law and I ran through 50 waves a couple of times. So satisfying

I'm sold on space marine... just didn't budget for it. I like that it's not cover based and has alot of melee. Not that I don't like cover based shooters.

I tried a UK version of Gears 3 on JPN hardware and it's region-locked.

i'm guessing it's the asian version that has it then :/
No idea why they'd bother region locking the UK version !

friends who got hte game early - didn't get full details. Perhaps just the decaps/removals?

Famtisu gave the game 10/10/10/9 I'm surprised honestly.

The game is great, and the best in the series by far since it improved multiplayer so much.

Also about the gore.. I bought the US version and can play it on my jp 360 with all the gore intact i think. I have been only been play online so people tend to not go for the flashy gore kills. But I do recall chainsaw cutting in half, bodies exploding from close range shotguns, a guy ripping an arm off and beating the person to death with it, and a guy punching someone in the face and the final one causing it to explode.

edit: Oh nevermind. It's probably the asian version that's like that. And I'm surprised the game is region locked... I'm fairly certain every GoW game has been region free.

played thru the campaign with a buddy over the last days, good game but definetly my least favourite gears game, almost feels like a railshooter.

a lot of my sexbox friends play this so i was roped in to buying it. its fun.

I traded in my elite with a pad and got the new 320GB gears console as i was anticipating my 360 dying on its arse. worked out with a trade in and value on the card to about £20 cash paid if i took in to account i was going to buy the game and wanted the new pads with the new d pad anyway.

Just to update on the censoring.. yeah if you have a jtag xbox, the game will be censored.

Though I have to say they did a good job of hiding the fact that it was. I played the first two on a us xbox and when playing this one I didn't notice the tone down in violence. Until I did the scorcher execution and noticed it wasn't the same as the gamespot video.

So here are the changes I've noticed.
1. Heads will not be chopped off or popped. (sucks ass)
2. Bodies when blown up will turn greyish.
3. Flame execution and cleaver execution are completely different.
4. Any execution that has head dismemberment or exploding will not have the effect.

I wonder how I never realized this sooner... I think it's because the game is really fun and I never really analyzed the gore in the previous games much. As long as bodies exploded and blood flew out at my screen I was content. The censoring does not reduce those effects, so that's probably why.

Also the sound effects of the head popping or exploding and chunks of meat the fly out are still there, but the head will still be intact. Because of the angle of most executions and the constant movement in this game, it really masked it and made it hard to notice unless you are specifically looking at the body on the ground.

Still a dick move by EPIC, but I guess it couldn't be helped. Fairly certain this wasn't an issue in the first 2 gears.

It was an issue. GOW 1 and 2 were never released in Germany. Gears of War 3 marks the first time the serie got an official release here. I have no idea if the game is cut here since it's not my type of game, but the censoring makes sense to me. Of course I have no idea about the japanese Versions, but yeah, Gore is an issue outside of America.
