24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
http://smraedis.atspace.com/marathon/
This forum's very own Smraedis (yes that's me) is going to do a Live 24 hour gaming marathon, to be Streamed Online in just over a month, called 24H1CC Super Marathon!
Come and watch it at Saturday October 8 06:00 GMT - Sunday October 9 06:00 GMT
The games played will all be Arcade games, ALL shmups and lightgun games/rail shooters, with the intention of 1 Credit Clearing as many of these games in the 24 hours. Will be uploading videos showing the games that will be played very soon!
Of course I'm not going to be playing short games, such as racing games!
On the stream, it will be showing the game footage and also a camera showing the games being played, at the same time.
There is also a twitter feed (here) which is a little empty right now, but it will get more active as the time goes on, and it will be very active during the event!
To add, it would be hard to play them on actual arcade machines, so consoles and when needed, emulation will be used. It will still be the same arcade games being played, on their hard arcade difficulties.
I thought I'd try and attempt something a bit different for me, and I do enjoy doing live runs, so doing as many in a 24 hour time seems a big challenge, one I look forward to doing.
Any questions then please ask, I'll be happy to answer them in this thread.

Sounds awesome! It's always a treat watching you play, particularly when you're roflstomping shooting games and lightgun games. I'll tune in if I've got some free time.
Be sure to play DonPachi at some point, I want to see how you got that sick score in the hi-score thread, lol.

You are the mental.
I expect no less than six 1CCs. For a man of your calibre, that should be easy. Even if you've not played them before.

I try to maximise scoring at every part of the game, and just play for score, not really trying too hard to clear the gameBlackbird wrote:I want to see how you got that sick score in the hi-score thread, lol.

But don't expect amazing scores during the marathon, my reactions are bound to slow down, and it will really make the games a lot harder to clear, I'm still going to play for score some, but the main aim is the 1CCs.
You know I can do better than thatcools wrote:You are the mental.

Wow, good luck
Any hints about the games you might play? I thought STGT was bad enough myself, but that's like doing a full week in a single day, no breaks!

I hope he tries for Ultra in the Mushis lol

I haven't exactly decided on which modes I will do on the Mushi series, but Ultra is really asking for too muchGus wrote:I hope he tries for Ultra in the Mushis lol

Re: 24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
Should be cool to see a fellow shmupper attempt to do this awesome feat. Marathon arcade game score/sessions aren't officially recognized by Twin Galaxies anymore since the early 1980s but they still stand to this day.
The longest single arcade marathon game session was clocked at a whopping 96 hours straight (with the ultimate goal of seeing if an ace arcade player could break the 100 hour barrier nonstop but it wasn't possible). So close but no cigar. Talk about trying to keep awake and still concentrate on getting a high enough score to score another 1up in reserve in order to take restroom breaks, grab a quick bite to eat, etc. Such scores would reset back to zero once a certain score was achieved (and in some cases, all hard-earned extra lives lost because the CPU couldn't keep track of them all due to memory overload or had to keep track of them to a certain limit and lose them on purpose as not to reset them back to zero!) -- this was quite typical of the software limitations found in those early 1980s arcade games.

Can we request which routes you take in your Darius runs, or do you already have them planned out?

Here is the first trailer video for the marathon: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OAik_jWSm5o
I must add that anyone who I know is welcome to visit here as I do this, I already have some people coming to help, but I would be happy with more
I didn't know the DFJ thread needed updating though!

I'd like to stick to my current routes, so then I have more of a chance with getting the 1CCsChainsawGuitarSP wrote:Can we request which routes you take in your Darius runs, or do you already have them planned out?

Re: 24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
Any chance of improving on DoDonPachi? GigaWing with at least a decent 1cc?
Re: 24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
Good luck bro! I might not be online to see some of it but hopefully you get lots of 1ccs.
Be sure to keep a lot of redbull or coffee around because I suspect your going to need it.

Yeah, would be awesome if you tried tackling DDP's 2nd loop again.tinotormed wrote:Any chance of improving on DoDonPachi? GigaWing with at least a decent 1cc?
Re: 24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
Haha, you guys really know how to pile on the expectations
. I'll be impressed if .SM can still clear the games after the first dozen hours or so, it's gotta be difficult maintaining your concentration for that long. He's gonna be dead at the control pad by the end of this marathon.

Well, the first person who can possibly get many 1ccs in 24 hours. Good luck to our Bro-ski* Smraedis! And remember, Woo woo woo, you know it*!

Hmm, do you not mean DonPachi? I didn't exactly push DDP at all.Gus wrote:Yeah, would be awesome if you tried tackling DDP's 2nd loop again.tinotormed wrote:Any chance of improving on DoDonPachi? GigaWing with at least a decent 1cc?
Yeah of course it is going to be hard for me, but that's what I want, just don't expect western record quality play all the time in this.
I do want to show what I can really do...

Re: 24H1CC Super Marathon - 8/9 October 2011
Good luck Smraedis.
Looking forward to seeing your TC3 (a harder game to score at than TC4 IMO) skills if that's one of the games you'll try. Ten 1CCs should likely be no problem for you.
Damn, I wish Namco would port the original Time Crisis to PSN. I'd like another try at this one. A compilation of TC1-3 and Crisis Zone (Both arcade and the PS2 version, the latter is like a Black Label with its differences esp. in combo scoring) would be better.
PS2 CZ is loads harder- I have 1CCed it but not hit 5 million yet, which is no problem on the arcade machine. The PS2's white smoke effect is mildly annoying and not needed (Time Crisis 3 has the flash in both versions but doesn't use this). Namco could eliminate that on a PS3 version, as well as bring back the red laser sight.

Kinect? KIN NOT.

And here is the second video for the Marathon - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VoeH07xk_Xc
I've almost got everything ready for it now, been practising streaming a bit with MAME, I think I'm getting there with it. It'd be good if anyone with knowledge of streaming with MAME could help a bit, it just can't seem to maintain framerate on the stream, but look fine on my input/output on my screen.

I'm bumping this thread up because it is now less than 10 hours away from the start, so I want everyone to see it
I've done a couple of tests and practised streaming things, now I just hope this goes very well in the actual marathon!
