Supergun Woes :(

Post by Joe T. »

So after selling my horizontal cabinet a few months back I bought a supergun from that guy JoJoUltimate on ebay for a decent margin cheaper than he normally sells them. Good deal I thought. However, connecting a 21 pin RGB cable from the supergun to my XRGB 2+ only results in a scrolling screen on my LCD tv. I have read about buying some type of "sync cleaner" pcb which can help with this but I'm afraid I don't have the skills necessary to install such a thing. The supergun does work fine via S-video connected to the XRGB2+ however.

My second issue with this supergun, is that I cannot get a steady screen with my Gamshara PCB (which does work perfectly plugged into my vertical cabinet). Using the supergun via S-Video to XRGB2+, it usually looks fine until the title screen comes on, and then the screen becomes very wavy, and flickers in and out. Anyone have any experience with this or other Namco PCBs on a supergun setup???

If anyone has any insightful advice or remedies for these issues, your help would be much appreciated.

If your games works through s-video then RGB should work too. I would double check your RGB cable and make sure the wires are going to the right pins especially the ground wires.

If your getting a scrolling screen it sometimes means your TV can't handle the odd sync coming from the jamma pcb. If that's the case you can go into your TV's service menu and tinker with the V.Hold settings and such. If you do mess with a TV's service menu make sure to write down any changes you made, so you can revert back to its default settings.

Does the XRGB-2+ have the AFC option in its menu? Adjusting the AFC should/might help with the wavy picture. Flickering in and out might mean that jamma pcb has odd sync and the XRGB-2+ with your LCD is having hard time locking onto it. When I had my XRGB-2 (non-plus) connected to my LCD, my Sky Shark board would sometimes flicker in and out too. Fixing just became a roll of the dice by pressing the power button on the XRGB-2 ON/OFF until the picture was stable. Other fix was to dump the LCD and just use CRT VGA monitor.

Namco System 10, 11, 12, early 90's Midway and Seibu boards will all give the same problem as well as other boards that have similar refresh rates. A sync cleaner board might fix it but I've never used one. I would like to buy one if anyone knows where to get one cheap.

Those Namco boards might sync on a PC monitor if you run the S-Video through a USB converter like a Dazzle unit, but it adds a game-ruining lag. Early 90's Midway (MK era) and Seibus (Raiden II era) might come out grey scale.

Thanks for the tips, guys. I will have to try a few things and see what happens. I'm not sure about accessing the service menu on the tv or an AFC option on the upscan converter. These are things I'm going to have to look into.
