Anyone relax on harder difficulties?

Post by captain ahar »

i realize that this may be rather a stupid topic, but i am curious. in my own habits, when i am tired of getting schooled by stage 3 of gradius III i crank it up to Hardest so i can get schooled by stage 1. :D those sand bombs that the many dragons set off are just the thing to cool me down.

the same goes for most of the shooters i've been playing gunbird 1/2, strikers 1945, Skiki 2, Sexy Paro, etc. also, while i don't have to crank difficulty with these, Death Label and ESPgaluda Arrange also allow me some time to breath, so to speak.

anyway, i'm wondering if anyone else has similar tendencies?
I have no sig whatsoever.

Yeah, I think I do what you're saying. When I get stuck in Galuda, I'll switch to Arrange in hopes that maybe trying to weave through that mess with help me to weave through where I'm getting stuck. I actually use harder difficulties a lot to try to learn for the game on defaults (basically thinking, if I get used to the harder one, the normal one will seem easy).

I do the same sometimes, to an extent. If I'm doing mega shitty I'll credit feed and just drown in bullets for a while.
Blow up self to involve enemies.

i just got strikers 1945 and this game really isnt that much harder on hard so i like to crank it up to 7 just for the hell of it..

really nice game to my surprise, not a big psikyo/strikers fan otherwise so i never bothered getting it.. turns out its by far the best in the series :)

It makes sense, maybe you're tempering yourself to get into the mode where you can concentrate on surviving better (because you don't have an easy ride to make you sloppy before the hard part begins)

Not me.

i just wanted to point out that i giggle when i see an absolute cloud of bullets approaching... seriously... giggle.

the first time i saw ESPgaluda, it was a movie of the fight against the train (can't remember what level). i watched it obsessively, because i had yet to really "know" shmups and it was so completely new to me. on that note, in remembering, the person really mishandled the scoring opportunities with it...

i have to disagree Sven, though i have yet to play III and doubt Plus would top it, Strikers II is much better. i still regret trading it to BIG, Cotton is positively sitting unused (another victim of "korean version-itis"). also, i have been meaing to pick it up again, i like it just can't get into it seriously.

I wanted to do the same thing with Gradius V this weekend, but didn't have the time. I wouldn't exactly call it relaxing, more of the opposite. I know the first four levels like the back of my hand so the game doesn't force me into alert-mode until 40 minutes into the game. And since one of the main reasons I play shmups is to get an adrenaline rush of sorts, it kinda defeats the purpose to play them in a relaxed state of mind.
No matter how good a game is, somebody will always hate it. No matter how bad a game is, somebody will always love it.

dont get me wrong its a good game, my biggest gripe with it is the graphics.. whats with all the shit-brown everywhere.. game looks downright awful imo..
more inspired planes in 1 as well.. just my opinion anyways.. 1945+ is horrible imo.. and strikers 3 is just like 2 only a little prettier..
