Hori VLX kitty board, pc compability?

Post by martina2011 »

I´m still struggling to get my hori vlx 360 fully pc compatible.
I´m running mame on vista 32 pc.
I finally got XBCD working but I can´t change the button configuration
And lately I´ve been getting issues with running XBCD…

Would a vlx kitty board mod help to work better on pc?

What's the issue that you're having?

I sometimes use my XBOX controller for MAME and it works perfectly, but you have to remember to remap the joystick inputs because the d-pad registers in Windows as an 8-way hat switch, not a joystick.

I know the PS3 joysticks can switch between analog and d-pad input, but I don't think the XBOX ones can, so you need to remap the inputs in your software.

XBCD (or xpadder or joy2key) only really need to be used if your software can't remap inputs.

It´s a long story. Here: http://shmups.system11.org/viewtopic.ph ... artina2011

And still not working 100% after that....

I´m hoping that a kitty mod will make the vlx work better/easier on my pc?

woah... pain in the arse. Instinctively, I'd be blaming vista rather than stick...

As long as your stick registers all inputs fine in windows control panel I'd use joy2key to bind those inputs to keyboard controls...

mod board shouldn't be needed.... and I'd only fear you'd have similar issues with that - even if typically it solved people's issues

***ps. what version of mame are you using and what UI for mame are you using - have you tried others? ... ***

You did enable game selection by joystick in the interface options, right?

Yes, pain in the arse...

Windows vista doesn´t register all inputs without the xbcd driver.
And since xbcd is already causing trouble I´d prefer not to add another program on top of that...
So, I can´t use xpadder nor joy2key without xbcd driver working, right?
I´m running mameUI32

I was hoping that the kitty board could somehow make it more plug&play since the kitty makes the stick compatible with more gaming consoles.

Yes I tried to enable game selection by joystick. Didn´t work either.

The hori vlx is probably not recognised in windows the same way as a std xbox pad.
Cheers!

Testing this with control panel right - not in another app?

control panel>game device> right click properties
[or control panel > printer and devices> right click properties on gamepad ]

(sorry not 100% sure what it looks like in vista - only win7 + xp)

That's the thing - it really should be... Albeit with a different descriptor string -Do you install window updates?

joy2key doesn't even need to install; just run the exe if/when needed. I would be super extremely surprised if it effected you in a bad way. It simply copies your input from a stick to a keyboard press.

Try easymame or some others - see if results are the same as mameui32...

ps. we're sure that general input settings and specific game settings aren't confusing the issues? [You can setup button/input settings per game as well as general]

pps. Don't mean to offend if some of this seems obvious - just covering bases....
