Sony PVM-20M2MDU - 31khz compatible?
I have a Sony PVM-20M2MDU. I'm thinking about getting a Model 3 board for it - specifically Virtua Fighter 3. I'm wondering if my monitor would be compatible with that game. Supposedly it runs at 31khz. Considering that the PVM is fairly new (late 90's, early 00's, hard to tell) I should think that it might be compatible with 31khz RGB. It is a "high resolution display," whatever that meant before HDTV.
In any case, it doesn't say anything about the horizontal scan frequency in either of the 2 pdf's I have on it. I have a brochure and a flyer of some kind, and neither of them mention it. I know it's 15khz compatible, because I've used arcade PCBs on it (MVS and ST-V).
Can anyone shed some light?

No, it's only 15khz. You can use a scan converter to run a 31khz on board on it.

Are there scan convertors made specifically to convert 31khz to 15khz? All I can find are PC to video convertors, and some super-expensive professional video equipment.

If you want 15khz 240p output you can buy an Extron Emotia or an Ultracade UVC. If you're ok with 480i you can buy any of the Extron VSC units. The UVC only does 240p. The Emotia can switch between 240p and 480i. You're looking at $50-100.

Well apparently the Model 3 has a resolution of 496x384. I'm guessing it's progressive, but I'm not sure. Any of those would change the resolution, right? If that's the case it might be better to try to get it to work over VGA on an LCD.
Re: Sony PVM-20M2MDU - 31khz compatible?
Oh well, this means your model 3 has a fixed output of 24khz. This means that you need a scan converter which is capable of handling this resolution. There are a few Extron models which can do this and there's an (expensive) Micomsoft box to do this. Be sure to check the specs before buying.
I can't think of any LCD which can natively accept 24khz.

What I meant was, it'll have to be downscaled to get it to display on my PVM, right? I think I read somewhere that there's a way to get a Model 3 to output VGA. That seems like it might be better, because it wouldn't have to be downscaled. Am I wrong?

actually upscaled and interlaced from 384p to 480i.What I meant was, it'll have to be downscaled to get it to display on my PVM, right?

Are arcade monitors the only kind that natively display 24khz?

so you could use a Extron VSC unit to input 24khz and output 15khz right?

Re: Sony PVM-20M2MDU - 31khz compatible?
Did they ever make (CRT) computer monitors that support 24khz? I'm averse to using an arcade monitor (outside of a cabinet, anyway) because I want/need the monitor to have housing.
Re: Sony PVM-20M2MDU - 31khz compatible?
It will likely depend on the signal. Not all 24khz is alike. For instance Sega Model 2 is 24Kx60 RGB negative composite sync, which will work on specific arcade monitors only.
