Looking for an old arcade shoot-'em-up:

Post by xbl0x180 »

I remember playing this game back in the mid-90s (I THINK... my memory is hazy). It was a vertical scroller with old-style airplanes similar to ProGear and Ghost Pilots (the sprites were big). I remember one of the bosses being a huge plane with arching wings that would retract back and forth... I think it even had little soldiers mounted as tailgunners that you had to shoot off. I haven't seen that game since the one time I played it. There's gotta be someone here who knows what the hell I'm talking about.

Any help would be appreciated 8)

Thanks for responding. I read the thread and there were some that looked similar in style, but no cigar. It definitely has to have a big WWI-styled aeroplane boss with retracting wings. Another boss was a long, big centipede-lookin' craft (I think it was red). I guess it's not an easy title to find, period :?

That boss resembled this:

Long centipede thingy made me think of of Sky Soldiers - lots of old-style aircraft going on:

The black & white photo reminds me of one of the bosses from Giga Wing.

ADK's Sky Adventure?
By the way, that plane is the lovely Etrich-Taube.
The rear gate is closed down
The way out is cut off

THAT'S IT! That's definitely one of the games I was thinking of! Holy carp, I didn't know the game was that old (1988?!). By the looks of it, not an easy game either (no wonder I only remember the first boss).

Thank you all for your help 8)

As soon as I saw that pic I knew it was Sky Adventure or Sky Soldiers.

There is no high score thread for Sky Soldiers but I still have my high score written down
Sky Soldiers - DEL - 3,741,150 - ALL 1LC

I have 'Sky Adventure ALL' written down too, but no score recorded.....I seem to remember the scoring was very low on that game...?
