That's the spirit.

I voted under "Occasionally", as I have tried three I think. I thought the one like Twinkle Star Sprites was ok for what it was.

the tss-like game is nice. there's an earlier game like it which is a bit more dumb.

Most of them look terrible, or are highly nerdy doe eyed girlfest simulators, no thanks. Plenty of real shooties on pcb to play.

Hmmm, looking to close to call so far. Choose wisely people, the fate of whether I'll ever turn to the doe-eyed side rests in your hands!

Better than Cave games? No way.
Better than Milestone games? Hell yes.

I voted for "Ugh, yeah - they suck". But that's not really true. I just tried a few and neither the music nor the art style are my thing. The gameplay seems very slow to me.

To keep it short, I don't think they suck, I just think they are not really good. But each to their own.

Touhou Mystic Square

and I can say I really liked. Very nice and simple to play again in keyboard.

You should give them a try. You won't know if you like them unless you try.

i found them a bit "meh". more decorative bullet patterns than anything else.
It's about "realizing their actuality." And judging by the look on Jane's face, she's realized it a couple of times already.

They get a bit samey after a while.

The best ones are Mountain of Faith, Mystic Square and Imperishable Night.

The PC98 games have AMAZING soundtracks.

Mind explaining how this, or this, or this is slow? Surely it's no excuse if you haven't done your research.

Only had the patience to watch the first one. Those are fairly slow bullets.

You guys are positively incorrigible. The bullets might be slow, the gameplay isn't.

I practically started my shooting game experiences with Touhou, so yeah, I've played them. To tell the truth, I'm not sure I would still be playing these types of games if I didn't like Touhou, since I had tried a bit of Raiden Fighters Jet shortly before and didn't really feel compelled to take it beyond a few casual runs.

Obviously each person will have his own opinion on the various aspects of the games, but I think the gameplay is still fun regardless of speed (and keep in mind recent games like GFW use consistently faster danmaku), the music is phenomenal, and the overall environment of Gensokyo is very appealing. Certainly give it a chance before writing it off.
The "funen" part of my name is Japanese, which means "not able to burn". I am slightly pyrophobic, so I tend not to get burned (literally, mind you).

lolis are badly drawn, gameplay is boring, music is boring except PC-98, story and setting are irrelevant, faggotry is faggotry, great job ZUN

but it's still better than Raiden Fighters Jet

Ive played IN and MoF plus another which im not sure which one it was. They are ok for what they are, although I do wish ZUN would spice things up alittle, especially in the graphical department where he is a lazy artist imo reusing the same stock fairy sprites everytime.

After spending some time with IN I have come around to moozooh's way of thinking on scoring where I actually had fun doing. Playing Imperishable Night I quite enjoyed the human / demon mechanic plus the line of collection. Note to everyone playing for survival the reason why there are many pauses in the game is to give players time to move above the line of collection for score. I cant comment on how well the other games play for score but as ive said IN was fun. Although I did lose interest in scoring once I 1CCed the game (my goal was 2bill but I gave up at around 1.4). But I didnt go for a 1CC straight away instead I concentrated mainly on scoring in stages 1-5 while avoiding playing the last stage 6B.

In the end I think of Touhou as in a sub genre all of their own and like Cute em ups ill have the occasional urge to pick it up and give it a whirl. I just wish ZUN would create better stages and use sprites that dont look alike as it makes memorising the game a pain.

EDIT I voted Occasionally - a few are decent BTW

Thanks to those who voted and replied. Glad this hasn't turned into a flame war, keep it that way please - oh crap I just jinxed my own topic

Upon reflection I think I probably should have included these as choices to vote for:

Yes - I started with them, still great now
Yes - I started with them, but I've outgrown them

Still on the fence about trying them since I'm a Mac user and I don't know if they'll run on my system. Was considering getting an older Pc for Mame, Crimson Clover, other Doujins, and Touhou.
