Gofer no Yabou remade intro

Post by ZOM »

A crazy guy on the GT forums just remade a 3D rendition of the PCE CD Gofer no Yabou intro.
Very well done, I think it more than deserves being linked to:

credits go to Riccardo Faidutti.

Looks great. Would love to see the whole game get that kind of make-over. Music needs to stay the same though. You can't touch the Gradius II soundtrack.

I quite have to agree completely with you on this one, bcass; couldn’t have said it better myself, you know!? :D

In fact, I have just taken a look at this video just now, and found it to be a most splendidly impressive remake indeed of the opening intro of the PC-Engine version of Gradius II... no BS about that!!! (^_~)v !!

Thank you ever so much, ZOM, for presenting us the link to that AMAZING little piece of remake work... which is most absolutely welcome to us these days, I shall definitely say!!!

Yes, totally agree about the soundtrack. The PCE CD version is perfect as it is. Such great tunes, it might be my favourite game (this particular version) in the series. :)

We need one of these remakes for Gradius 2 then, and GnYII. We just need a remake remake for GnYII, period. Yessss. YESSSS.

Oh god, we need a super great powerful strong remake for the whole Gradius MSX quadrilogy. YESSSSSSSSSSSS

You probably can touch any Gradius soundtrack that isn't Gradius Gaiden. Gradius games need nice, long stage themes, not these little 30 second loops everywhere (those are better for boss themes). Gradius IV easily has the best foundations for any of the music in the series, and I say that because nearly every tune is too short for its own good. That's even more heartbreaking because it's after Gradius Gaiden, which was done by a complete genius. Nemesis II even tries harder, and it shows.

I'm looking at Ys Complete over here. Another good example are the Perfect Selection Gradius and the Perfect Selection Konami Shooting Battle albums. Really great stuff here.

I think the amazing thing about the "30-second loops" of the early Gradius games is that they're actually completely adequate in narrative terms; though they loop seamlessly and constantly, you get the feeling that you've listened to a fully-realised movement each time. If that's not a very lucid idea, listen to something like "Mechanical Globule" from the original, or "Dead End Cell" from III.

Pretty well done remakes. I think they're sort of odd though in that the Vic Viper model used is much less complex than the rest of the objects designed for the videos.

You can also see full 1080p versions of these remakes on youtube.
