Side Arms - Hyper Dyne, Capcom 1986 Horizontal

Image

Capcom's answer to Gradius, this game has a power up bar similar to Gradius. At any time cycle what weapon to use with C.
There are 5 weapons and each can be powered up 3 times.

This thread accepts all versions of the game and will be put into their own table as needed.
Please use default difficulty and extend settings and play on one credit.

I did this about an hour ago

Mero - 830,800 - 7 - On

I think this game might be ALL-able, depending on how many stages there is. I was cruising (sort of) until near the end of level 7, died just as the boss appeared on screen.

I may suck and credit-feed at this game, but I do like this one. It has 10 stages by the way, each ending with a boss and each of them are just too repetitive. The last boss looks like a cyborg caterpillar that leads the invasion force.

Stages 1, 3, 5 to 8 is a battle against a mini-battleship.
Stages 2, 4 and 9 looks like a rolling defensive wheel. Beware that when it's near it's last bar, it's becomes too aggressive.
Stage 10 is the last battle, like I said. There is nothing to do here than to take down the boss that I mentioned.

The default ALL is one of the easiest around.
My recommendation is to play Side Arms on Hard. Its a challenge and full of adrenaline.

EDIT:-

I dug out my old Arcade High Score book and I have this score for default Side Arms:

DEL - 1,742,500 - ALL - no autofire - PCB in arcade 1986

Great stuff guys. I knew there was some love for this game hidden among you! It's a very do-able ALL I can tell from my time with it. Updated the table.

My score is almost identical to DEL's, only 3.5k between them. :o

It's a good job I took a picture of my score straight away. When I beat the game my score didn't appear in the high score table, just as the high score at the top of the screen. I exited out of Side Arms and then went back into it again to see if it would still be there and it was gone :?

Played on the Capcom Classics Vol. 2 on the PS2 using player 2.
The robot is less ugly that way and the side shots when powered up act like little boomerangs.

On the whole a tricky game if you die, but quite busy and actually more fun than I thought it would be.

Discovered the fairy..., erm, cow! Played it extremely risky in order to get as many Yashichis as possible and lost a bunch of lives in the process. I'm really glad that I managed to tough it out, I just love this particular version of the game. The new stage 1 theme gets me pumped every time!

Scoring is somewhat pointless (literally!) in the arcade version since you can get any amount of points out of the third boss. I'd have to check the PCE ports but if I recall correctly they altered some of the terrain a little bit which would make this impossible there. I only do it a couple of minutes to show it off, but the WR holder must've done this for several hours. I played the Japanese version on the 2P side in case it matters. I'm also sad that I never manage to clear the game without dying at least once. I furthermore didn't realize while playing that the Yashichis don't give more than 100 points in this version, one more reason to play the HuCard port!

Speaking of the ports: I got a better PCE CD score a while back, but didn't see the need to bump the thread, but might as well do it now:
