Strikers 1945 for the PS1
Is it a good port of the arcade version and worth a buy? I found it at a pawn shop new for $11.

If it's the US release, it's actually Strikers 1945 II.
I doesn't have tate and only features a cramped yoko mode and wobble mode.
I don't think it's worth it. Stick to MAME.

Looks like you can get it on eBay for about $10 plus shipping. I don't remember it
as being hard to find. I like having a legal copy, but for practice, I still play the arcade
version on an emulator. I think it may have some extra difficulty levels that don't line up
exactly with the arcade version, though.

Re: Strikers 1945 for the PS1
I didn't find anything really wrong with playing in Original 1 mode (letterboxed, compressed vertical, adjusted play balance) but found the Original 2 mode (letterboxed, panning the screen up and down) rather annoying, even if the play balance is closer to the arcade machine. The only other issue is that the music is sort of muted vs. the sound effects and neither music nor sound effect volume is adjustable. Controls are spot on along with being able to map a button to rapid fire (rather than having to pulse fire like on the arcade machine).
Difficulty levels are Monkey, Child, Very Easy, Easy, Normal, Hard, Very Hard. Don't be fooled by the easiest difficulties monkey through Very Easy because the game still gets quite fast by stage 7 (even despite reduced shot patterns and more shootable shots in the early stages).
I already own the game for the PSOne, but for $11, if I didn't already own the game I'd buy it. Use charge shot strategically but also whenever possible and deploy support for the bosses only seems to be the way this game wants to be played.

Re: Strikers 1945 for the PS1
I'm afraid this one cuts a bit close to the 'Topics to Avoid', section of the Board FAQ.
There's numerous threads about Strikers ports on PS1. I think this best serves as the main one. It's very similar to this thread, and covers the US port thing in some detail.
That considered, I'm locking this thread.
In short, the general consensus on this issue is that Strikers 1945 is better ported on Saturn, and Strikers 1945 II is best ported on PS1. The US Strikers 1945 is indeed the rest of the world's Strikers 1945 II.
