(SOUNDS LIKE) No more shmups from Aksys :/

We were reasonably satisfied with the performance of Deathsmiles, but we are not currently pursuing any other similar games.

Nothing concrete but it doesn't sounds like DFK or DS2 will be showing up in the west any time soon.

Kinda stinks. But I guess it's to be expected. I'm sure no one really picked up DS NA at a gamestop...I'm sure they never even put them on display...

They're a business, they'll do what sells.

If people wanted more shooters from Aksys, they shouldn't have spent 7 months trash-talking the NA port.

Thanks, thats the game I wanted to reference but could not think of the name. I've seen Agarest War at my closest gamestop but not DS. I wonder which game sold more copies in the US?

I would like to know as well. I really hope Agarest didn't outsell DS, as I cannot find Agarest enjoyable in any way. Granted, I am not a huge srpg fan, but I would say with 99% certainty that Deathsmiles is outright a better game.

On top of that, its only $29.99 new at Gamestop, while Agarest has maintained its price tag of $49.99.

I was actually told by an employee at Gamestop that they were not allowed to put Agarest War on the shelves, due to the... well... the naughtyness of it, for lack of a better word.

If you go by VGChartz, Deathsmiles sits at a bit under 90K, while Agarest approaches 150K.

For comparison's sake, in Japan the figures are roughly 48K versus 6K, respectively.

Deathsmiles is better. I wouldn't necessarily call Agarest bad though, and I still need to finish the game actually. If I got to generation 5 on it, I can at least get the true end and everything.

I think there might have been some internal conflicts between CAVE and AKSYS

Yeah I know lol faceshit but CAVE does not even have Aksys as their friend while they do have Rising Star Games, can't put any concrete evidence but it seem to me that Rising Star Games has alot better relations with CAVE.

Also not to mention the butchered version Aksys got,and no word of a patch, meanwhile we got confirmations that the PAL version will be just like the NTSC-J version then the talks about a patch began both the PAL game and US patch were release very close to eachother I seriously doubt there ever would have been a patch if it was not for RSG.

Are there any other known publishers who have a reasonable chance to pick up some of these other games for a NA release?

Well shoot, I put off importing DS2 for this reason. I wonder if it'll get a platinum hits version in Japan.

I'm sure Rising Star benefited greatly from Aksys/Cave having already gone at it for DS.

I am pretty sure VGChartz just makes up their numbers, unless it was in the NPD top 20, in which case they just steal them. That sounds way too high for Deathsmiles in the US, but maybe not, idk.

The US version was patched a couple of weeks ago to bring the slowdown closer to (or to) the Japanese version.

Day is ruined is understandable, but the others are way too much, especially disaster of 2011 and ultimate betrayal.

So, who can we hope for a DDP DFK localization now?

I think it's a little early for this much pessimism.

There was a recent debacle over the Atlus game Catherine, for those who weren't aware (or have already forgotten).

Some random blog asked Atlus USA if they were localizing the game and reported their stock "We have no plans at this time" PR response. Other sites picked up the story and ran with it; nerds across the internet wailed and cried...six days later, the game was officially announced for summer 2011.

Don't quote me on this, but months ago, my contact at Aksys mentioned something about the experience with Cave and was probably going to be likely that they wouldn't bother working with them again.

Good news. The loss of willing publishers to buy the rights to their games increases the chance of them just going region free on everything.

Or it goes nuts mode and CAVE region locks and PAL is the only one to get the domestic releases.

Also on a unrelated note CAVE wrote on their Twitter I think it was, If you want DFK 360 ask Rising Star Games.

This is really sad to hear, and as an European I fear whatever caused Aksys' decision might have an impact on Rising Star Games as well, especially considering the game sold much better in USA than it did in Europe despite some pretty effective distribution channels (even seeing a game like that in a physical game store where I live is incredibly impressive).

While RSG have strongly implied almost the opposite, that they are interested in bringing more of these games over but are unable to promise anything yet, I'm getting the feeling that the problem could easily be Cave themselves. If they are difficult to work with I wouldn't blame RSG for backing out as well.

If this happens to RSG as well it's back to being too close for comfort :(

Probably getting to that stage now... I don't know ...

... I'd hope this'll push them into the $15 downloadable market, but I suppose that's a different kettle of fish altogether. I do feel if they wanted to widen their audience this is where they need to pitch themselves. Cut out the retail and distribution hassle [especially if they get no exposure in stores anyway].

Yes because it's hard to prove they would sell that many more via download to make up for the loss in revenue. I'm not sure that many casual folks find a 5 stage shooter worth $10, let alone $15. Also, if they went XBLA they would require demos, which certainly is the weakest point for a Cave game. Could you imagine trying to sell someone on how awesome Futari is with the first stage alone?

When i was talking to their former PR girl prior to DS's launch it certainly seemed like Cave was pretty much running the show and Aksys was just along for the ride. Not exactly the best place to begin a relationship.

I suppose it all depends on weather another US publisher steps up to the plate.

As for DFK WL / BL which imo is what fans want localising the most. Cave might just pull a Ketsui and not bother with any localisations what so ever and wait another 5 years while the next console generation comes along. (Is this a smart move for Cave? With how fast things are moving in arcade emulation atm, I dont know)

Then again if RSG localise an euro version. Cave could give the green light for it to be region free. It's doubtfull but Cave seem to be quite flexible with all the different methods of exporting their games to the west. With DFK BL only just releasing in JPN they have a bit of time to sit on their hands and decide which way the wind is blowing.
