I was nervous to tate when I first got around to doing it. I started off with an old CRT tv I had and flipped it on the floor. That worked for a while so I got something a bit bigger with a better image so I got a big old multisync monitor thats 100 lbs and 29 inches. That made me really nervous but I flipped it with some care so I wouldn't scratch up the table it was on. Next time I go to walmart Im going to pick up some of those fuzzy round stickers for moving things and put them on the bottom and sides of the monitor so it will slide back and forth without gouging the table. I usually give the tv at least a few minutes after flipping it either way before I use it. I haven't had any color issues yet while doing that.

For an LCD the only conceivable way I can figure flipping it is with a mount that will swivel or permanently mounting it in tate mode. I definitely wouldn't tate an expensive HDTV but thats just me.

For LCD monitors with VESA mount points, you can get a rotating monitor stand. I plan on doing this for one of my 24 inch 1080p screens.

I have 2 LCD HDTVs, 32 and 40 in.... But I don't want to mess them up.

You won't mess up a LCD monitor by running it rotated (unless you drop it or something). Heck, you can find rotated LCDs in malls and airports with commercials running on them, and some LCDs come with stands made for rotating them.

To tate a CRT : The ideal tv/monitor for tate has flat sides, required to have a stable tate screen. Make sure you have enough room to manipulate and make sure the cables are going to follow. Grab it, flip it on the left side, takes about 10 sec. You may have some color distortion on some tv. Leaving it off for a while in the tate position and coming back can help. Dont rotate a tv while its on !

Ive been Tating my 180 lbs 32" sony Trinitron a few times, its extremely scary but the result is spectacular.
I used to tate my old 27'" Nec all the time without a problem (the one on my avatar).

For tate on the pc and the 360 i use a Vesa mounted LCD. (asus vw266)

The only dilemma I find is when to decide to play other non-vertical games. Will I play horizontal games long enough to warrant flipping the monitor? If not the tv stays in tate.

Hehe yeah, i did not worry with my older set since i could rotate it easily in seconds. However with that 180 lbs monster that is exactly the dilemma i face. I have been thinking about a device i could build to rotate my CRT easily. Sort of like a giant hamster wheel with the TV in the center.

I've got a 27" Vizio that has a lot of cable slack. All I do is take it off the entertainment center, and rest it at an angle on the floor and against the entertainment center. Gives it a little bit of an angle like an arcade cabinet. Just gotta make sure the angle isn't too extreme, a bump could cause it to slide. I wouldn't recommend this simple "ghetto" setup if you have tile or hardwood floors in the room though. You need a carpet or some kind of floor mat for traction.

I am wanting to Tate a 22" lcd monitor, but looking for some advice on a stand to use that can be rotated somewhat easily. I still love playing Deathsmiles as much as Futari right now, so having the ability to rotate back and forth would be nice.

Nay, I TATE'd the joystick microswitches instead. No reason to make it too easy.

In fact, next I should swap them with random pushbuttons: A = move up, Left trigger = Move down, etc.

Zoom modifies Y and X at the same time, so it's exactly like modifying them separately. So long as you manage that, you can keep the aspect ratio.

You won't get a full screen on a tate'd LCD without stretching.

Anybody wanting to rotate a pc monitor should look for an older Hewlett Packard. I have a 23" widescreen HP2335 model which tates but stretches the picture a bit. You soon get used to it because the result is so much better than playing with huge borders on a smaller play area.

I also have a 17" 4:3 model HP1740 which gives the correct aspect but, obviously, a smaller play area.

But, of course, although it may seem obvious - the thing to remember is that it's the stand that rotates, not the monitor. And, more importantly, all PC Monitors have a standard screw-in bracket at the back so you can actually tate any monitor if you have the rotatable stand.
