Good series-specific videogame sites?

Post by BIL »

Having just found the very cool http://crazytaxi.net/ thanks to Davey's CT topic, it made me wonder what other dedicated resources might be out there. Know any other good ones for games/series you're into? Of course there's the old classicgaming.com overview stuff like Contra HQ, but I'm thinking more in-depth.

http://www.thewilloftheancients.com -A really neat site covering the Panzer Dragoon games.

http://www.grimfandango.net -An awesome site surrounding the game called Grim Fandango.

http://www.shenmuedojo.net -Still alive and kicking. I don't particularly care for the new layout, though.

I'll add more as they come to me.

It's a shame Square never released this officially in English. They should at least re-release it on the DS or PSP or something. I think I'll play this patched version on my Xbox once I'm done with Tales of Phantasia.

Here are a few pretty good sites for some RPG series; although some might be just for an individual game. I apologize in advance if none of these links reflect the desired results of the post. It's just that I've had these things bookmarked forever and thought I would share them since they seem to at least somewhat match the post subject's request.

Fire Emblem
http://www.fe-online.co.uk/fe7/blazing-sword/ This site has some Fire emblem stuff. Not sure how much.

Phantasy Star:
http://www.pscave.com/ps4/
-- this one has a bunch of cool maps

http://www.psalgo.com/phantasy-star-iv/ ... ml#motavia
--this one is called "Fringes of Algo: Phantasy Star Fan Community"

Final Fantasy Stuff:
http://www.cavesofnarshe.com/ff5/
--an old bookmark from when I was playing FFV

http://www.ffwa.org/ff5/
--ambitious FF series site

http://forums.ffshrine.org/
-final fantasy forum

http://ffvspirit.com/
--this might be strictly a ff5 site

http://www.uffsite.net/
--the official unofficial ff website

This thread just showed me how many bookmarks I have to delete. It's sickening really, so many sites about games not many would write about are going down lately, sites that lasted almost a decade. What's even more sad is that no-one seems to care (read: save/backup the stuff).

This is what I ranted about several months ago. There's not enough HTML love for games these days. Everything's going to blogs or Youtube and such. It's sad. Back when everyone had their own ISP webspace, servers at a university, or even free webhosting places like Angelfire, Fortunecity, Tripod, or Geocities, there was so much variety of fandom. Heck, we even tried to tie our pages together with those silly Web Rings. Now, you're lucky to find any unofficial homepages at all on any subject anymore. That makes me a sad panda.

Just to clarify: I'm simply supplying the hosting, twiddle's the man in charge of the site. Might as well mention that I'm quite willing and capable to help out others in the same way, if they have a site in need of hosting.

Bump! Handy reference page for Herzog Zwei units. If, like me, you've just nabbed a Japanese cart and have no idea WTF is going on in this wonderful game, it should help.

CVD was essentially useful for its forums. Kurt's commentary was spotty and at best just a placeholder for the fan presence, not that I mean to denigrate the work he put into it (a lot more than I ever did for the community). I ought to get back to that model sometime, though.

I actually mooted the idea of a Shinobi page (don't know about the 3D ones yet) and we might have the "stuff it takes" to get that done :)

Fuck, awesome thread!

The tumblrfication of Internet based fandom has probably facilitated more raw output, but there definitely seems to be a dearth of depth which can only be realised through a 'proper' website. Big shame.

Anyone know of a Shin Megami Tensei focused web community/site/wuteva? Or even better, one dedicated exclusively to Japanese dungeon crawlers?

Cool site, thanks :)

Was kind of hoping for one of those old Geocites style 'shrines' though, something like IAN'S MEGAMI TENSEI DUNGEON. I guess the series has become popular (in the West) only fairly recently.

Wasteland (if you don't know what this is lol):
http://wasteland.rockdud.net/wasteland.html

You might have thought that it was only one game, but it's actually a series (now more so than ever with Wasteland 2 coming out). There was a very obscure "Fountain of Dreams" release years back.

Also, the link for Ninja Gaiden doesn't seem to work...lorem ipsum bullshit. Classicgaming used to have a site for the classic (pre-Xbox) series.
