X Select D4
I recently won an X Select off of yahoo japan and I have a few questions regarding it.
I know it has both component and D terminal hook ups and that they are really the same thing but does one give better results than the other like on the XRGB-3 where some D terminal inputs give a better picture than the others?
Also when using it with my XRGB-3 which output gives better results, VGA or D Terminal?
Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: X Select D4
D-terminal carries straight Component video. Depending on where you live it might be easier to import a D-Terminal cable than a Component cable for whatever console you want to hook up to it.Kiel wrote:I recently won an X Select off of yahoo japan and I have a few questions regarding it.

Re: X Select D4
I don't think you get the noise filtering if you use the component output, with VGA it totally cleans up the component signal from my PS2 and Xbox.

yes, if you use the XSelect-D4 with an XRGB-3, it's definitely DSub15 to DSub15.

And can I assume there is no difference in terms of quality of the d terminal inputs like there is on the xrgb-3?

Re: X Select D4
yes you can, I've used both component inputs and both the back and front D-Terminal inputs and they're all fine.

How much did it go for, Kiel? Micomsoft really needs to put this back into production.

Re: X Select D4
Just want to throw it out there that I have had some compatiblity problems with a few low-res consoles using the dsub15 output from the xselect into an xrgb-3. no such issues with d-terminal but then you are transcoding twice and i couldn't get it to look right.

Re: X Select D4
The output? hmm I couldn't get either of my TVs to recognize the signal, both said mode not supported. But it does that with my xrgb3 on B1 mode so maybe its just the TVs.

Re: X Select D4
You only get a useable VGA output when your input is 31khz or higher, so for example 480p from a XBox or PS2.

Ahhh, I sort of thought that's what it was saying at the Q&A section on Micomsofts website. Fudoh to the rescue, thanks again.

Yeah with the D4 what you put in is what it puts out frequency-wise. I only wish it had more 21-pin RGB inputs so I could connect my Sega Saturn and PS2 w/RGB (I know I can use component with the PS2, but...).

Re: X Select D4
The XRGB-3 won't work with my Genesis at all in B1 (B0 works fine) when routed through the XSelect VGA to XRGB, and the signal loses sync, gets scrambled and starts dropping in and out when Saturn games switch to 480i for menus. Any ideas? Is an extron interface worth a shot?

Which Genesis version are you using? Does the Genesis work just fine when connecting directly to the XRGB-3? Which inputs on the XRGB/XSelect have you tried?SGGG2 wrote:The XRGB-3 won't work with my Genesis at all in B1 (B0 works fine) when routed through the XSelect VGA to XRGB, and the signal loses sync, gets scrambled and starts dropping in and out when Saturn games switch to 480i for menus. I recently built a Genesis 1 RGB cable with RGB through 220uF+75ohm resistors and composite sync though a 100uF cap and was able to get a stable image in B1. The only time I saw any picture dropout was at the beginning of the Konami splash screen (Contra Hard Corps.).

Re: X Select D4
I have a Model 1 VA3. Both the Genesis and Saturn work fine routed directly into the XRGB game in port, but the green signal doesn't make a connection unless I press and hold the connector down and to the right...
hence the XSelect. I've only tried the game in on the XSelect, Dreamcast takes up the VGA port, and I don't have the right adapter to try it anyway.

Re: X Select D4
For the MD I have the same "issue" when running through the XSelect. The XRGB-3 won't show a picture through the RGBHV input. Funny thing though: I have the YUV output of the XSelect connected to the Videon Omega's component input and here the MD shows up fine. The same YUV signal on the Radiance won't show again. I don't really bother, since I usually connect the MD directly to the XRGB (on front).

Re: X Select D4
My XSelect now blanks out after a half hour or so. It gets worse the longer it's on
Can someone check the included power adapter for the proper voltage? Mine came with an XRGB2+ adapter.

Re: X Select D4
12V, 1A, more than easy to replace with a generic one. I think the XRGB2plus one has the same specs. I would replace it nevertheless. Can always be dried caps or something else in those cheap switching PSUs.

Re: X Select D4
Did anyone ever find a solution to the xselect's issues with the Genesis and Saturn? Other than getting another linedoubler that is.

Re: X Select D4
Anyone figure out how to pass on 240p via the jp21 port on the xselect d4 to the xrgb 3 using a dsub to dsub connection?

Re: X Select D4
Just to be clear on my side, if I feed the Select D4 240p via the JP21 connector, the output on the Dsub15 is 240p?
Thank you!

Re: X Select D4
That's the problem I'm having, I feed in 240p via jp21 but by the time it gets to the dsub connector its outputting some nonstandard sync or something, whatever is coming out is off spec, the xrgb 3 reads it as 480p but the image is distorted
I think I read somewhere that VGA can't carry 240p maybe? Not sure, in either case I still can't get the xselect d4/xrgb 3 combo to work correctly jp21 240p output

Re: X Select D4
no, that's definitely not it. As mentioned before I had the XRGB-3/XSELECT-D4 combo running for a few years and I didn't have any problems. I think there one source which didn't work when connected to the D4's JP21 input (Mega Drive maybe?), but in general I routed most of the systems through the D4 before passing them to the XRGB-3's back-RGB input.
I guess you tried all the D4's sync options from the extended menu (sync tip etc) ?
