Sonic Wings Special letterboxing
Sonic Wings Special letterboxing
I was thinking of picking up Sonic Wings Special for Saturn, but I don't have a TV I can tate. In a game like Strikers 1945 II or RayForce, playing the game in horizontal orientation really changes it: in Strikers it's cropped so shots can come from unseen enemies, and in RayForce it just feels extra cramped and effects are missing. How does Sonic Wings Special handle it?

Come on, just flip a damn tv. You'll be glad you did.
FULL LOCK is BOMB

I would, but I'd probably be crushed to death by the one I have-- or at least the casing would crack8 1/2 wrote:Come on, just flip a damn tv. You'll be glad you did.

The graphics are not mutilated (the lot is cropped and bordered rather than downscaled) and there are two yoko modes: one uses scrolling, the other one squishes the action so to speak).
Without a doubt, though, it's been designed with the arcade mode in mind. I just wasn't able to enjoy either yoko mode. Arcade mode on Hard is the way to go (first stage boss is much tougher on Hard, which keeps things exciting if you go for 1cc).
If you choose Volk's Ka-50 Hokum, don't play with autofire alone (tapping single fire has different effect than holding it, whereas holding auto-fire works like tapping single fire and that's it).

You can still buy a brand new 14'' or so TV with a Euro SCART socket for your SDTV RGB needs. Among those last SDTVs even cheap ones have pretty good CRTs and can handle NTSC signal. SCART leads for Saturn should be still around (of course you'll need European one for a European TV).louisg wrote:I would, but I'd probably be crushed to death by the one I have-- or at least the casing would crack8 1/2 wrote:Come on, just flip a damn tv.
