Ikaruga Model!

Post by mouser »

I know people here like, hate Ikaruga and stuff, but I thought this was just sick:

Image

It's a Ikaruga model made by Kotobukiya, coming out in Summer 2011. It's labeled as Ikaruga "white version" which leads me to believe it will be a pre-painted model. :D

UPDATE: The Ikaruga model is up for preorder at two shops:

AmiAmi
Hobbysearch

Release Date: June 2011.

---

Also, the guys who released the unpainted Ikaruga garage kit awhile back also did the Ginkei (you'll have to scroll down a bit).

Great find - and a release date too. I have the [bootleg] resin unbuilt somewhere but its still great to see this thing commercially available. Hope it's in styrene.

Makes me wonder if the "black" variant Ikaruga model will be released as well.

I have to say, I think the Ikaruga player ships look better in-game than any real-life examples I've seen.

That Radiant Silvergun ship model is so sick. Level of detail is astounding. The R-Type ships are especially beautiful.

Great find.

I'd like to know what all of that hardware is on the ship. I see the guns, but the function of the bayonet and the banana clips are mysteries.

The bayonet pokes you in your dumb guts and the banana clips are for holding lots of bullets to blow up your dumb guts.

The Ikaruga model just went up for preorder at two shops, for anyone interested:

AmiAmi
Hobbysearch

It's release date is June 2011. It requires assembly, and is stated to be for advanced builders.

The price makes me question what the quality would be like. I've seen kits on Yahoo Japan for three times the price, and that's unpainted or assembled.

Honestly, I was expecting some ridiculously high-end price like 18,000 yen. I think I'll hold off..

Those were probably event only resin garage kits. This is injection plastic. Kotobukiya has great quality anyway, I wouldn't worry.

Guys, this is a Kotobukiya model. This is very good news for us. The Gradius models were made by Alteir Sai, and they aren't very experienced with making model kits. Painting shouldn't be necessary.

Kotobukiya follows the Ban Dai model of plastic models, meaning that they're very easy to build if you don't have any real modeling experience.

Hopefully, those are waterslide decals and not stickers (like Ban Dai does). The Virtual On model that Specineff is currently working on uses waterslides, so that puts me at ease that the Ikaruga model will be the same.

Well, all of those stupid pictures and not one of them had a direct overhead shot of the ship, as seen from the player's perspective. It still looks cool, though.

Does it come w/ decals or must it be painted? I usually don't deal w/ shit like this but that's nice, and I could use something to spruce up my desk.

It has decals, I don't usually bother with these kits either but there's something quite unique about the ship design in Ikaruga.

Are they waterslide decals, or peel-off? (Please say waterslide....)

GP: I doubt that any painting should be necessary. It looks like all the sprues come in either black or white plastic. Maybe only using a fine point Gundam Marker to bring out the details would be necessary.

yay, I'm not the only one putting it together :)

My WIP:

I'm waiting on some supplies to arrive before I proceed further. It will probably look good without painting, but I'm gonna touch up some areas a bit.
