Ouch :/
So tonight I was playing ESPGALUDA II when my room mate starts bitching at his girlfriend about how he can't find his cigarettes. He gets drunk daily, and this is a typical occurrence in this house hold. I don't think too much of it until he starts throwing a real bitch fit and starts throwing shit. He throws this dinner stand thing and it lands right in front of my 360. I'm telling him to be careful and explaining that was close, next thing I know the 360 makes these huge cluncking sounds. So I stop it and eject the disc. Apparently his throwing of the dinner stand and it landing by the 360 knocked the game out of place. My ESPGALUDA 2 disc was instantly scratched to shit :/
My 360 won't even recognize it. Ouch :/
I've boxed up my 360 and don't plan to play it until I live somewhere else. He offered to pay for the game but he's not working so the chances of that actually happening are next to none. His kids broke my ps2 before as well. (dragged it off the top of the TV by pulling on the controllers while fighting)
Shame too, he's a good friend and has been for a long time. Not normally an asshole, just has been having issues dealing with life lately.
Since I'm out of the game and will have to save for a while to be able to replace it, I just came on here to vent .:/

That's some shit. I've installed all my Cave games to my hard drive, because they're too precious to me to risk. I'd hate to lose ESP2, I just fell in love with it again after falling out of love with it for a while. I gained some skills from playing all my other shooters, so it feels a lot more fluid now.
Anyways, at least it wasn't Futari, right? Though I guess that'd be the best one to scratch since it's a platinum hit...
How does your friend have kids and not have a job? Is that the life problems he's going through right now?

Why do you associate yourself with losers?
Pretty difficult to be sympathetic here honestly. Especially considering the fact that you didn't even buy the games.
Edit: Just so that this doesn't open a gigantic can of worms.. my point of view is that your damaged goods were free material. While it sucks, I don't understand why people choose to get themselves into situations like that.

Not everyone starts out as a "loser". This friend is someone I've known for over 10 years. I don't turn my back on someone just because they're in a slump or have developed some issues over the years. It's better to have some people around you who you know are genuine friends rather than people who just have their way right, at the moment. This is also someone who's given me a place to stay when I've had no where to go. (more than once)
Second, I know you love to follow me around boasting the obvious (look at my sig) about me using PA Affiliate links (like those you have on your blog and even went out the way to make custom images for) ...but this game was actually a purchase completely out of my pocket. Also, this is just for you. http://tinypic.com/r/2vb4poh/7 You run around this forum acting like I'm making 100's of dollars by people using my links but most of the time I'm lucky if I can accumulate 20$ worth to help with a purchase.
I guess you're right. Futari would have been worse even though it's cheaper to replace. I had DFK in but decided to take it out to play Galuda 2 for a change of place. Kind of glad I did that.Special World wrote:That's some shit. I've installed all my Cave games to my hard drive, because they're too precious to me to risk. He hasn't always been without a job, just post-christmas.
This house is kind of mad. He has 2 kids, (though they're with their mom for the time being) his girlfriend has 3, and they have 1 more together. So at any given time you'll hear constant yelling and fighting about the most nonsense of things.

You still have to have the disc in there in order to play the game though unless you're playing on a JTAG'd console and you can alternatively not even have to buy the games!. Anyways I think this story is a testament to how lousy the 360's disc drives are!Special World wrote:That's some shit. I thought one of the points of installing it was that the disc would run even if it was scratched?EPS21 wrote:You still have to have the disc in there in order to play the game though unless you're playing on a JTAG'd console and you can alternatively not even have to buy the games!. I agree. Sorry, perhaps I misinterpreted the situation. I lived with some neighbours a few years ago which were fairly nice, but to cover the cost of living there they had to get flatmates in. The flatmates tore the place apart, it was really sad. It got to the point where they'd smash holes in the walls just to spite them. It eventually went to court, which they tried to lie their way out of, saying that the owners set them up by damaging their own property.apple arcade wrote:Not everyone starts out as a "loser". I know how Play-Asia works, dude. I don't see how a down-the-middle-of-the-page and conveniently placed screenshot tells me anything.apple arcade wrote:Second, I know you love to follow me around boasting the obvious (look at my sig) about me using PA Affiliate links (like those you have on your blog and even went out the way to make custom images for) ...but this game was actually a purchase completely out of my pocket. I make custom banners on my blog for my pre-order and recommendation list. The banners Play-Asia have are ugly as sin and don't cover the games I want to buy or recommend. I'd use Amazon.jp's affiliate program if I could still do so.

Unless the scratches on the disk are really really bad you should beable to to get it fixed aslong as none of the shiny metal is damaged. Dont bother with home kits get it repaired professionally either locally if you can or through mail order. I cant recommend anyone though as its been donkeys years since I had a scratched game disk

As much as that sucks about your game getting wrecked, the real victims here are that dudes children. What a sad thing to have an unemployed drunk pops fighting and tossing shit around over cigarettes when he's got mouths to feed. Unfortunately this is quite common in today's economy, and I fear it's just getting worse. Sorry to derail, I'm sure this will get moved to offtopic regardless.

I don't know what you're on about with "in today's economy" because that type of behavior has been unfortunately common throughout the entire length of human history.chempop wrote:As much as that sucks about your game getting wrecked, the real victims here are that dudes children. Re: Ouch :/
That is certainly a good point, but I still feel that it has become more difficult for families to get by, as a result of a poor job market and busted educational system. Struggling adults often turn towards alcohol and drugs as a way to cope with the feeling of helplessness. But regardless it is also a generation issue, "families" today barely have the strength or stability that existed when I was growing up. Now a days kids get their pharmaceuticals and have their Internet, while the parents are drunkenly fighting over cigarettes and avoiding the real issues and addressing what they need to do in order to get their head above water. I'm not saying that it's solely a poverty thing, but I will be honest and can recognize the fact that many communities are economically collapsing and it's taking it's toll on people's judgment and responsibility.

How 'bout selling some of your friends stuff on ebay so he can pay you back? Had to this once with a friend who owned me 150€.apple arcade wrote:He offered to pay for the game but he's not working so the chances of that actually happening are next to none.

After I "flatted" my running 360 the DVD (RFA) was rendered useless, but one of these pro. CD/DVD scratch removal machines at a local game shop did the job just fine. You might want to give it a try.
cheers

It's just a game, piece of printed plastic, not to be fapped over. It sounds like the problems he's facing are far greater than the value of a commonly available material possession. Tell him to pony up some cash to go toward another, then sit down with the guy and try to figure out how he's going to get his head straightened out.

And for those condemning the guy for all manner of things, remember you don't know nothing about him or his life.

The entire situation sounds frustrating. Sorry to hear that.
Getting your stuff wrecked sucks, but it's bound to happen at times when you have kids and roommates around.

That's a rough situation.
I try to stick by friends, but I think the moment they start manifesting their frustration in such a physical manner, I'd be done.
Hopefully your friend gets his act together and doesn't lose his temper so badly anymore.

First off, sorry to here about that topic creator. Hopefully your friend will pony up and get you the money for the replacement disc.
Secondly, Elixir, if you don't have anything positive to say, then piss off man. Every time someone has some sort of opinion, story, comment, anything you somehow dissaprove of, you feel the need to come in here and shit on the thread. If you don't have anything decent to say, then don't post. Not the hardest concept in the world, but like you said in a different thread:
I'm probably only the 100th person to tell you this.

It's been a while since I've had to get any discs resurfaced (a roommate decided to move the X360 with a disc in it), but the last time I did I used Skippy Disc and the discs came back looking like new.TrevHead (TVR) wrote:Unless the scratches on the disk are really really bad you should beable to to get it fixed aslong as none of the shiny metal is damaged. This is more or less my outlook as well: while I can sympathize with his situation, it isn't your fault that things are the way they are, especially not to the point where you should have to deal with him getting drunk and physically aggressive on a near-daily basis. If he doesn't get that concept through his head following this little incident I'd strongly suggest looking for alternative living arrangements if you can.Thjodbjorn wrote:I try to stick by friends, but I think the moment they start manifesting their frustration in such a physical manner, I'd be done.

Okay, some good news.
1. were going to try that skippydisc and it sounds like it'll work just fine.
2. my roommate felt horrible about it and it kind of brought things to light. a normal person doesn't start throwing stuff because they can't find their cigarettes. he's going to go AA and addressing some other issues.

I throw things and get mad all of the time. There is no reason to do it, and I wish I didn't. Telling apple that "videogames aren't important" does nothing but make you look you're some sort of ridiculous moral authority, especially when you're on a bloody video game forum. I'm sorry about that situation, and it's good you're sticking by your friend. I also feel you have all the right in the world to complain about an expensive videgame being broken in a frivolous stupor as well. I'm sorry about your friend and your ESP Galuda II. Hopefully he'll get his situation together and reimburse you.
