Precautions in buying Raystorm HD xbla for a first timer

I was able to secure a copy of raycrisis for PSX and have wanted to get Raystorm as well... However it will be cheaper for me to run the xbla HD route... But I hear bad stuff about the "remake". The main issue being the aspect ratio tweaked for the worse for 16:9.

Can I get some guidance or advice on which version is superior? I'm looking for the overall experience... Not just the cheapest route :) thanks!
