Good way to see what you've missed if you don't follow the scene. Nothing spectacular, but some of these games are a fun diversion and worth checking out.

Excellent post!! Thanks for bringing this to our attention - I've never even heard of any of these!

No Genetos? Really? Sure, it's been released in incremental updates for a while, but the full version wasn't released until this year.
And by virtue of replayability it IS better than Hydorah. Hydorah may have the nice sprite art going for it, but it just isn't that fun to replay a 4th or 5th time. I'm still disappointed Locomalito never included any sort of arcade mode.

Of course, that's just an opinion.

Final was released in December of 2009. It made no. 2 on the best shooters of the same year:MathU wrote:No Genetos? Really? Sure, it's been released in incremental updates for a while, but the full version wasn't released until this year.

Not at all crazy about some of those picks - did not like Bat Country at all. Then again, I guess I don't know enough about omitted shooters to say they were any better. Slow year?
Hydorah is a good time. I thought it was notably less interesting gameplay-wise than what it took inspiration from (mainly Gradius), but it's very slick.rancor wrote:Excellent post!! Thanks for bringing this to our attention - I've never even heard of any of these!
IGMO - Poorly emulated, never beaten.

Huh, I thought it was released in January. It's been a slow year indeed for freeware shooters. I expect a lot of great titles from the better developers next year after their absence this year. Didn't notice anything particular from shmup-dev this year either.
Of course, that's just an opinion.
