please identify JP Sega arcade game: similar to Gauntlet
When I lived in Himeji up to 8 years ago, there was a Sega arcade game I used to play that was very similar to Gauntlet Legends or Diablo. I figured it was a Naomi game, but I didn't recognize it on Wikipedia's list of Naomi games. I looked for the Naomi ROM, GD-ROM, and Naomi 2 ROM and GD-ROM titles and I don't recognize it. It featured online play, IIRC, and I remember thinking that it was a shame that it wasn't released on the Dreamcast. I think it was released in early 2001 because I think I remember it being in the same corner that they had Ikaruga in. Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It was a hack and slash game, and you could choose a male or female warriors, and I think there were weapon options such as sword vs arrows and such.

Slashout?
probably not but worth looking at for a match - hack and slash, 4 players, link up mode

failing that it's possibly Quest of D games but that would be later than 2000-2001 - more like 2004 for the first version and i thought that had a custom cab with a touch panel。Online though, dungeon slasher, pretty much what you describe :

EDIT: Yeah, is probably Slashout. It's emulated on Demul, don't know how well.

lol, seems we had crossed thoughts - the more i thought about it the more i thought Quest of D - just the dates don't match. Unless of course it was on a very early trial.

I think Slashout was released outside of Japan (or at least some arcades might have imported it) - I remember seeing it at an arcade in Auckland, NZ at around the time it was released. Didn't play it but it must have got stuck in the corner of my mind because dcharlie's post brought back quite a few buried memories of pink-haired belly dancers in attract modes. I remember that Slashout was by Nagoshi's team and there were a few rumours (hopes) tossed around that it might get a GC port. It did not.

Slashout! That's it! Thanks. I recognized it from the youtube link.
For some reason I kept thinking it was Hundred Swords, but that was a Dreamcast game. I never played it, though.
