Half of the people here have no idea what this thread is about

Might as well lock it since it has no meaning anymore.

It is natural that Vista is said, "Vista is Heavy" even with a fastest personal computer.
And, "Windows7" is also quite similar to "Vista". (Oh my god!)

A cigarrete-advertising spambot showed up and started like 60 threads in a span of 5 minutes on every forum. It was a literal takeover, but BulletMagnet fixed things quickly enough so few people noticed.

And that was just the second incarnation of that spammer. The first one posted around 80 new spam topics a few days earlier. All of them garbled nonsense about cigarettes.

I've got a great idea. WE SHOULD F` NUKE ALL THE SPAMMERS in the world! HACKERS MUST BE NUKED! Never mind, if we nuked all hackers, we would also nuke ourselves, so in the end. There would be nothing but dust  (and one GaijinPunch)

Yeah, I believe you were tasked with handling that one: even more impressively, you managed to do so before anyone else had a chance to notice. :)

That's why it's good to have the moderation team be made up of such skilled and handsome members located all over the globe, someone's nearly always watching

More effective advertising than cigarette-promoting spambots:

Forgot where I read the idea (somewhere around here), but making a user's first post approved by moderators sounds like a good idea. Would cut down on the spam by a lot.

Not quite true, but they were being cleaned up very quickly.

Do you guys just go through and delete from a profile? That would seem to make reporting every ad spam post from a single user kind of meaningless.

And isn't the profile deletion option available to the mods? It's an Admin control panel option - never have moderated a phpBB board so I wouldn't know...

What! and wave goodbye to my lovingly crafted threads that sink to page 2 quicker then the Titanic, I shall make a new thread in protest!

As for the smoke a fag spammies I happened to see when they first appeared, which was only 5 or 6 threads I didnt know there was any more added. Looks like the fag hacker got abit trigger happy and went into spam overload after those initial test spams.

What I find shocking is who could possibly hate the shmups forum!? (shock/ horror)

They don't hate the Forum, they just hope the Forum is dead or unmoderated so their spam can reside forever, skewing online searches.

Do you remember the scene from The Wizard of Oz where the wicked witch sends out the monkey army? It's like that.

hehe i like that analogy.

What made me think it was a hoax rather then a standard add spam attack was from reading it. Ive seen some pritty badly translated spams but that was utter nonscense like someone had run it through google translate 10 times from chinese to hindu to swahili to japanese and then finally to english

It doesn't matter what it actually says, as long as it fucks with search engine ranking in some way (positive for them, negative for everyone else)

I guess it was just good timing. I happened to be around while few other members were at the time. Interestingly, the spammer was still online when I discovered his posts and kept posting away while I was busy deleting his gibberish.

I believe nZero caught another incarnation of the guy/bot. How many posts he had to delete I don't know, though.
