Used VGM cds stores in japan

Post by clamchowder01 »

Hey guys,

I will be going to tokyo japan this december. I was wondering if you guys know any stores that sell VGM cds and used ones. I have been looking for some and don't want to go thru sites like Rinkya since I am going there.

Any suggestions?

Thx!

I brought a bunch of soundtracks from the 2nd floor of Nakano Broadway, it wasn’t a Recomints store so that narrows it down to one or two. The organisation seems to be to randomly pile stuff in a kind of relevant shelf so just ask the guy at the counter. Company names (i.e. Cave), Soundtrack and CD are all near enough the same in Japanese anyway, just add a no and a arimasu ka and they’ll talk fast you can’t hope to understand while pulling CD’s from seemingly random places.

Expensive though, so if you’ve not got an aversion to second hand CD’s I’d wait until someone posts one of those. Book-Off is a big chain of second hand shops (specialising mainly in books, strangely enough) you’ll find pretty much everywhere, but I’d be surprised if you found anything.

You can find this stuff in some of the normal game stores too, that’s where I picked up my Irem Soundtrack Collection. One thing you won’t be able to escape is touhou and touhou remixes. I found two shops devoted entirely to it, and every manga or doujin shop will have a section for them. Meh.

as briefly mentioned in above post : Book Off. most the luck i've had in stores has been in Book Off's. The one in Aki has a pretty good selection of used VGM cds, Kichijoji had a good section but it seems to have moved (will check where to), some of the smaller locations still have good stuff too.

Only problem is that these still go for stupid amounts of money.

There's also Mandarake in Aki , Nakano Broadway and Shibuya as more obvious places to check. There's also one of the Liberty stores and Super Potato have a not-bad selection also in Akihabara.

What dcharlie said. I had the best luck with the Akihabara Liberty stores (there's at least two on the main street) and Super Potato. The latter's a bit pricey, but damn if they don't have a good selection.

Book Off stores I found to be a little hit and miss--their prices were decent, but you could never count on the selection. Hard Off stores will sometimes have a VGM section to their audio CDs, and are worth checking out as well. The Hard Off/Book Off stores are generally the most rewarding if you have the chance to visit ones that are a little out-of-the-way, as they didn't seem as picked-over as the ones right in Tokyo/close to station hubs.
