Cave-Stg.com is now closed down?

Post by Vyxx »

Anyone know what happened?
I read about EOJ restricting it to certain members only, but that was only weeks ago right?

I'm not sure what happened. I didn't see anything in IRC. Lack of people visiting the forum maybe?
Or just his own decision to close down I guess.

He's keeping it.... streamlined and accurate.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

It is what it is and what's happened has happened. Best to just leave it at that lest we get another 6 page bitch-fest going. I'd rather not see another locked flame thread added to the already too numerous locked flame threads we're getting every week.

I'm glad the info from the site won't be lost, that'd be a shame.

There was more useful info than just the reviews though, kind of doubt he'll repost most if any of that. Plus, you can read all of those reviews rewritten and lolplagiarized on a certain other webpage by a certain other notorious and banned poster.

Broken link for me. Either way, I don't understand the "wrong hands". We're the fans- the people keeping this hobby alive. Information hoarding hmm. Either way, I don't know how kindly people will take to him coming back based on him removing the stuff before he left.

Oh well, that's life. Bound to be people out there that it's hard to understand.

He did repost a few of his guides in the Strategy forum recently, so I don't think he plans on leaving his stuff in the dust.

Don't know what EOJ meant by that. Hope it is not the obvious assumption or maybe he is guarding his work (reviews and such) if i remember correctly it was abused some time ago. Anyway i hope he addresses this as it was an excellent board and a good resource for CAVE games.

I don't know if it's the times we live in but the internet culture has completely forgotten about the rights of the creator. All EOJ wants is to make sure his reviews and guide are attributed to him and hosted in respectable places. This doesn't mean you can't go ahead and share the content, it just means that he wants you to cite him as the authour and to remove the content if you're hosting it in a way that he doesn't approve of, i.e. insomniac.ac.

The ended up closing Cave-STG because he was getting tried of people not respecting these two simple rights.

A better example if you want to make the comparison is Lily Allen. She got sick of people pirating her music and announced she was going to give up recording music.

Musicians can't help but make music, whether they're getting paid to do so or not. Same for pretty much any other artist and their art.

Lily Allen is nothing more than a musically inclined mercenary. A female version of Gene Simmons.

Are we sure that EOJ closed the site purely for getting fed up of plagiarism? I remember a while back there was a thread on Cave STG where he pointed out how much work he had, and that he didn't really have the time to keep on going with the site. It was also moored around this point that the content would be moved to the Gamengai forums should this happen. In general, people made it clear that they wanted a separate, purely Cave forum. But yes, still surprised to see it close down so suddenly, but I don't think it was entirely unprecedented.

Big shame it's gone. I used it more than Shmups these days, to be honest, as it was a very comprehensive and accurate news source. It was nothing like the Insomnia forums either: EOJ only kicked a handful of people off his site for being consistently annoying. It was primarily a news site for a few posters, so there was really no need for drama.

I hope the site either gets resurrected or someone else makes a similar one. But in the meantime, cheers EOJ for maintaining such an awesome site for so long!

Lily who?

Look it's not a matter of piracy it's a matter of moral rights.

Since you've brought it up, I'd really like to know if you consider me consistently annoying, since I was one of the ones who was kicked. Honest question, and please be candid.

You were a complete cunt.

Nah, I'm just kidding. You were an alright poster just like most of the people there. The people kicked off for being annoying to the general forum populace were booted long before the great purge. People like Lire Xi.
