God of War PS2 is an almost perfect game.

Post by neorichieb1971 »

I don't know if any of you guys have played this but its absolutely fantastic. Its kind of a action RPG, powering up with souls, powering up magic and weapons etc. But its done in a Prince of Persia/Ico fashion. Not much platforming here though, its more about a demonic slaughter house on steroids.

Some of the bosses are huge . Its very heavily puzzle based and will require lots of patience. Its hard not to die quite often (at least once an hour) so its kind of frustrating as well.

The presentation is absolutely top class and never fails to impress. There is even some topless women in it . If you like any of 60's and 70's movies based on Greek Mythology and mythological creatures (Argonauts, Sinbad, Clash of the titans) you will absolutely love this game.

I give it a 9.0/10.

Bad stuff -

Camera is on rails
Complex mapping of the controller, every button is used
Its sometimes easy to be lost (where do I go now)

Recommended for anyone looking for a top rate game and challenge in what I would consider a very lame summer for gaming releases.

A perfect game to me is one that delivers my expectations and maybe a little more to boot. Which is exactly what this game delivers for me.

What makes this game so classy is its ability to offer so much variety of gameplay. The presentation is shockingly good for the PS2.

I understand that it will not appeal to everyone or it will have features that people will disapprove of. But overall its still an outstanding achievement for Sony to come out with origonal I.P of this calibre..

If a sequel comes out I am sure it will up there with the best of them. The only thing I really miss is a controllable camera.

So, based upon your "theory" if you think a game is going to suck and it's average then it's a perfect game (or maybe even uber perfect)

It's a good game as I said (and you obviously are fawning over it), but it's nowhere near perfect.

Stricktly reading neorichieb1871's words you could conclude that I suppose.
But I am quite sure he meant to say:

"A perfect game to me is one that delivers on my very high expectations of it and maybe a little more (than I hoped) to boot. Which is exactly what this game delivers for me".

Well I did read the reviews . I don't look for games that suck just to find out that they really do suck

When a game constantly gets 85%+ in every publication and online and gets called a true masterpiece and delivers beyond my expectations. Its almost a 100% game to me.

Plus, it just happens to be my favourite genre.

No need for sarcasm.. Thanks Super laydock.

Apparently, no need for the full development of your thought process either.

Reminder to ease up with anything like this resembling personal attacks on fellow forum members. He provided reasons for liking the game, they don't have to be bulletproof.

I also enjoyed this game immensely. It made me feel the same way I used to when I was much younger, and used to unwrap a shiny new game, and be amazed by the gameplay and what I was seeing. I haven't felt that way in some time.

I also like the difficulty. I played through on the default difficulty, and then replayed it on God mode. The game plays very differently on God mode, you have to find all sorts of new strategies to survive. I had a lot of fun.

And yes, the toplessness is kind of nice, too :P

I still haven't gotten this game. How does it compare to Ninja Gaiden on the Xbox? Most folks I've talked to say Ninja Gaiden is a better (and tougher) game. Also, since I've beaten Ninja Gaiden on all difficulties, will I beat this game with no problems?

I personally enjoyed Ninja Gaiden and DMC 3 more. God of War was a bit easy on its default settings and it needed more boss fights. Still mighty impressive for an action game developed outside of Japan though. It also doesn't hurt that the game looks phenominal as well. A bit overhyped but fun and well worth the money.

YES. If you beat Ninja Gaiden on all difficulties you will breeze right through this game. You should still try it though. I would recommend waiting for the inevitable price drop however.

Not that I have put any research on this, but there is an English language version coming for Asian (JP) consoles right?
Or does the game require no knowledge of any language at all? :?

The Japanese release isn't out yet, but supposedly it's coming. It's probably going to be heavily censored though (see Shadow of Rome and Biohazard 4 for proof of active censorship policies in Japan now...), as Japan's CERO ratings board has become really pissy lately. I don't know if they'll leave the English or not.

I must be crap at games as I find GOW pretty hard in places. Maybe I am not utilizing my full range of attacks that well as its the fighting that I struggle with sometimes.

Funnily enough I find it easier where I am now than I did near the begining.

DMC was too hard and tiring for me and I didn't like back tracking or the combos or the shopping aspect to it.

Never played the others. I am more a POP:SOT or Ico person, like puzzling not fighting so much.

I am surprised people get attacked on this forum for saying they like a game

Maybe the title of this thread provokes that kind of response but its just an opinion. At least I backed up my comments and put forward what I thought its downfalls were.

I will not give opinionated views again if its going to turn this place into a circus.

Just look at the recent fracas over GTA 3... and that game is 4 years old.
