Donpachi PCB questions

Post by Skykid »

Okay, is it just my board or is the background music in Donpachi really strange? It seems to alternate between being very quiet and then building until its quite loud - and then dropping back to being quiet again. The general quality is a bit scratchy too. Is this my PCB on the blink, or is the DP soundtrack quality just a bit shit?

Also, does anyone know if Donpachi has a freeplay option and how to initialise it - I couldn't find it on the test screen?

Thanks much dudes!

Not sure about the sound, but I know that there is no freeplay option on the DonPachi PCB.

Thats perfectly normal for the BGM...its supposed to build up intensity. And correct, no freeplay mode.

Would it be nice if Cave were to implement a "Free Play" option upgrade for their DP and DDP PCBs?

A lot of older Cave games have shockingly poor audio quality - they went sampled way too early. Guwange is the worst though - all bass tones distort due to the compression.

Yeah, Guwange really twangs out hard at certain points, especially those drumbeats in the opening cinema. Soundtrack's great tho.

Just an option that can be set on several PCBs to allow you to play by just pressing the start button without putting a coin in the machine (or just flipping the switch on the coin door in several cab owner's cases).

I got tired of keeping quarters around, or flipping up my cp and hitting the coin switch manually. I just put a small button like this:

http://www.radioshack.com/product/index ... Id=2062510

on my control panel (it matches my main buttons exactly but just like a 1/4 size), and wired it to the coin microswitch). So basically I have built in freeplay on all PCB's and I can still use the coin mech if I want to. Since it's just in my house I didn't bother to hide the coin button, but if you wanted to I suppose you could hide it underneath the CP or something.

Even the OST sounds scratchy. I have no idea why or for what reason but it isn't very clear or clean sounding.

Scratchy is normal, I guess its just a low bit rate.
