Panzer Bandit (PSX) is freaking awesome

Post by Cthulhu »

In some thread a while back that turned into a "Treasure is overrated" flame-fest (happens a lot these days  ) I heard a lot of people talking about how Panzer Bandit is supposedly better than Guardian Heroes. I'm a huge Treasure fan, so while I didn't agree with what people said about GH, I was curious about Panzer Bandit.

I picked it up yesterday, and I must say that I'm -really- impressed. PB is fantastic! 4 unique characters, excellent control, large variety of moves and enemies, great visuals, and good character design. Is it better than GH? Who cares! Buy them both! :D They're two of the finest beat-em-ups -ever-. Up there with the Capcom Dungeons and Dragons games for me.

I guess good things can come out of flame wars on occassion. Thanks for the recommendation to whoever brought this game up!

Just a reminder.

One friend of mine has this, but I haven't played it enough to judge. I hope it makes a better alternative to GuardianH than GunnersH is to Gunstar.

Looks better than the crows.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

That's not hard. Crows is overrated crap also. It's a boring and average beat-em-up.

GH is an awsome game, spent so much of my life playing that game to perfection lol.

The game is rather like marmite, you either love it or hate it!

Agreed! I adore this game and rank it as one of Treasures finest. It really is my favourite scrolling fighting game ever.

LOL, this game kicks the shit out of GH. If you guys wanna talk about Guardian Heroes, you should start up a thread. I was under the impression that this thread was for a quality title.

I've been looking for this game awhile. I wanted to see how it stacked up to GH myself.

It's much simpler and easier to get the hang of. It still has its difficult moments, but it's easier to pick up and play. GH is so complicated. Plus I don't recall GH having kickass juggling of enemies to the friggin moon. You can seriously juggle enemies right off the top of the screen. Its pretty cool. The art is also totally awesome. A wee bit Treasure inspired and very slick.

Somehow the art reminds me of Power Stone's. Or the other way around.

You could juggle in GH, you just to remember the proper techniques and spells to use.
Heck, with one character you could acually make them constantly bounce into the air off of a particular spell.

But I still have to pick up Panzer Bandit.

er no juggle combo's in GH?... don;t mean to offend dude but I'm proberbly going to anyway but you must of been pretty bad at the game if you could not juggle on it.

All you had to do was some uppercut followed buy a few quick light flying kicks or a speical move and you have a juggle or better yet if you picked the green ninja (name escapes me now) his electric wave move can do some serious combo'ing/damage, best I got was 252 hits juggling several (big) enemies.

Although I'm told the other game is the dog's b*ll*cks so I will proberbl pick it up since I do apreacate a good scrolling beat-em-up.

I tried this one out and I got bored of it FAST. Not very much challenge, but I didn't have a problem with the style and everything else. Just the game itself isn't a lot of fun for me. I felt like I was always doing the same thing.

I've never played Guardian Heroes but it seems to get really mixed reviews. Love or Hate, and neither in between!

Last time I played GH was the summer of 2000. Bad? Good? Who knows. I actually really like GH, but I greatly prefer PB and played it a whole lot more. GH is on the "someday soon" shelf.

So can I only assume this is another one of those obscure titles selling for well over $100??

It goes for around 5000 yen in Japan, so I figure the overseas price will be up around $70. (5000 yen is about $50 US, but there's always a substantial price jump.)

Where's a good place to get it from? Ebay has been pretty dry as of late :(

I'm also trying hard to find a copy of Chippoke Ralph No Daibouken / The Adventure Of Little Ralph but can never seem to find a copy for sale on ebay or anywhere else :(

Have you tried Ebay stores? This seems like a game one of them might stock... you'll pay for it though...

How much does Little Ralph go for these days? I bought it back when it was new and just kept it since then... I've heard it's pretty expensive, but I'll warn you that it's not all that great. It's a very basic action platformer with some pretty 2D visuals.

There WAS a copy of Ralph on there a few weeks ago (IIRC Palet was selling it)...I think it went for over 100$, but I'm not positive. In any case, I've only seen it there once or twice.

I love it when something I've had for a while turns out to be valuable. I'll stick this up there with Suikoden 2...

Little Ralph is -NOT- worth $100. Do not buy it at that price unless you simply MUST have every last platform game on the PS1.

Markinjapan had ralph for like $70-$80, you might get $100+ because not many are listed.

Panzer Bandit is just never listed on eBay, I have been looking for a year and have probably seen two (but missed them). Both times it was like $40-50, it is not like it is in high demand, there is just a very low supply.

So it's like some older GB games that aren't really rare or expensive, but don't appear on ebay much? What is up with that? It's easy to find Sin and Punishment or Raidant Silvergun on ebay, but Beatmania GB, the GB/GBC Puyo Puyo games, and some others that aren't expensive hardly ever show.

Rarity, price, and availability aren't always directly related - demand is also a big factor, as is how well a game is known (although that fits into "demand" I guess). RS is well known and in demand, as is Sin & Punishment, Alien Solider, Zanac X Zanac, etc. Even though few copies of the games may exist, they're in constant rotation people people want them and are aware of them.

Games like Blast Wind and the GB games you mentioned are rare and semi-valuable, but they're in less demand and fewer people are aware of them, so they don't change hands as often.
