Fall 2010 DC/VA/MD Area Shmupmeet (Nov 6th)
Fall 2010 DC/VA/MD Area Shmupmeet (Nov 6th)
Alright, so the planned date for the next meet up is November 6th. I guess best to play it safe in regards to Radirgy's release (and at least one member said this would be a preferable date).
As usual, the meet up will be at our place, starting around 2pm. I take it I should pick up some more of the deli swirls.

That's much, much further away than the past few restaurant choices though... and I don't think Konami's food is good enough to warrant choosing it over the dozens of Chinese-run Japanese restaurants in the Gaithersburg area. Tachibana would totally be worth the trip though...Minzoku wrote:Incidentally, we had Konami Japanese Restaurant recommended for the next shmupmeet dinner

I really want to make it to this one. I think I have some kind of class on that day. Maybe I'll be able to skip it.

You have class on a Saturday? o.O
Re: Fall 2010 DC/VA/MD Area Shmupmeet (Nov 6th)
How far is the meeting place from Baltimore? What type of stuff is usually there? I'd love to come out.
edit: Oh, it doesn't seem like it's all that far. Well, Gwyrgyn knows me from another forum, and I'm on AIM a lot (capnpayne). I read PMs here, of course... It'd be awesome to play shmups with actual human beings in person. Imagine that. Let me know if there's room.

Yeah it's usually about an hour drive, depends pretty heavily on traffic.
I have no idea about the quality of any local Japanese places but I did find there's a Ramen joint in Bethesda that's supposed to be pretty good.

Ren's Ramen? It was okay, but I have high standards after having the best ramen I've ever had in LA.
However, it's not currently an option as the place they were renting from closed, taking them along with it. They plan to reopen but for now they don't exist.

We tried Yoyogi Sushi in the Kentlands, and it was okay but a closet. There's always Temari (again (Rockville)).
Are we doing Japanese, then? Or were we going to have a poll: What should the Delmarva Shmupmeet eat for dinner?
There's always Urbanspoon if we're stuck, of course.

Well, we've done Japanese and we haven't done some other stuff still. Could maybe do Italian or Greek. Anyone know any good Ethiopian or Mongolian places in the area?

Greek, there's Cava, but it's also a closet and loud as hell [from how many people are packed in].

What about Thai? I really like Sabai in Germantown, they got a nice floating market soup, among other things. There's a bunch of Pho places in the area too but I don't know what's good or not.
Re: Fall 2010 DC/VA/MD Area Shmupmeet (Nov 6th)
This date is good for me; figured I should at least confirm that.
Food? Thai so we can watch Gwyrgyn fight another TLB

Haha
As for Thai, we tried Sabai Sabai in Germantown, but it was kind of small for our group unless we made a reservation for ten or whatever. Okay otherwise. Open to suggestions from the peanut gallery.

Sort of a long shot, but did anyone here have an iPhone/iPod/iPad that was capable of running the DFK iPhone port? I might need some help solving a bit of a mystery regarding its soundtrack...

Where exactly is this? I live in Virginia Beach. What's gonna be there to play? I would love to come. Lol, I'd have to tell my girlfriend it was some kind of video game convention or something so she wouldn't think I was weird for driving 3 hours to play games with people on the internet. I wish I had a van, I could bring up my candy.

I have a Supergun and two tate'd SD TVs, so no need for a cab. Console wise, we have just about everything covered. Bring whatever games and joysticks you'd like to play/use.

Haha, um. I was going to post all the Strike Witches playthroughs, but y'all kinda do some shit-talking I shouldn't post and I don't have a video editor that knows how to handle my camera's codec... =| [kinda never got around to finding one...] Kiken says he'll try fixing it, I guess. Posting the first one, but it's taking an hour to upload just under 15 minutes.

So from this shmupmeet, we established the following:
Feel free to let me know if you need help with the video editing.
- Strike Witches characters are capable of flying under solid ground
- You CAN find excellent Key Lime Pie in a Thai restaurant
- I should not drive with passengers after eating spicy food (sorry guys! x_x)
Feel free to let me know if you need help with the video editing.

Re: Fall 2010 DC/VA/MD Area Shmupmeet (Nov 6th)
Probably a bit early to be poking around, but any thoughts on when to meet up again? MAGFest (and finally setting up my VGA monitor for tate shmups) got me a bit pumped for it.
My calendar for February onwards looks clear except for 2/26, when I'll be at the 2pm Video Games Live performance at the Strathmore.
