DMC joins Silent Hill, Front Mission and Vandal Hearts in the "Japanese videogame series handed off to Western developers" list. Fuck Crapcom and fuck Inafune.
I seem to be the only guy on the net who's fine with this. then again I never liked the series beyond the first one. Plus I thought Heavenly Sword was a fantastic, if somewhat short title. Meh, wait and see I guess.

You forgot Ace Combat and the ugly west simplify shit they're doing with assault horizon, rebirths my ass!
I may have to give a play through DMC3 as homage to his passing.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

All they need to do is make Dante all emo, sparkle in the sunlight, and have some clingy, possessive, Kristen Stewart lookalike as the token female character, and they are set.

Oh, so that's why Front Mission went 3rd Person Shooter for Evolved. Skipping that, then.
yeah, I guess this is going to be controversial no matter what. Devil May Cry will always stand as one of the best games ever. The subsequent games were all over the place, never quite capturing the magic of the first. I'm okay with the ideal of a reboot, I really like the real world setting teased in the trailer. Dante looks.. Well.. Like a 19 year old drug addict, like he wants to barrow money from me. I'm gonna stand by Capcom on this. They do a good job protecting their franchises these days, and this has to be close to their hearts. But, it's early, even the trailer looks choppy. I wouldn't be surprised if they change Dante back after the backlash that is commencing.
OT: Hell yeah Dead Rising 2 Case:West!! Epilogue for DR2 for download like Case:Zero. I have had the demo for the first DR on my hard drive since it came out, for when I wanted to do a little bit of zombie smashing without getting into the full game. Really enjoyed Case:Zero and will be happy to have two DR mini versions on my xbox to play when I'm in the mood for some zombie slaying.
Serious I'm not sure what to think. Obviously it's just a CG trailer so we know nothing of gameplay, but the style isn't really hooking me. By going teenage Dante seems less like a bad-ass and more like just another stupid punk kid. Hopefully we'll get some better info over the next few days.

Yeah, I already "noticed" the shitstorm that's happening on the more mainstream forums. My most used/posted phrase thie gaming generation gotta be "Fuck outsourcing!". It's getting silly.
On other news, maybe, just maybe Capcom can get a bit love from me if THIS ONE turns out decent enough.
Yeah the QTE thing is what buggs me the most in that trailer, otherwise it has the potential to be a quickly paced hack & slash.
EDIT: actually, I don't mind if they're just used to summon Ashura once in a while, but considering the actual state of the game industry looks like they won't leave it at that.

That has been Capcom's modus operandi since forever though. The farming out major franchises to western devs is fairly new, otoh - but it's not just western devs ... SFIV was farmed out too.
I don't have a problem with Capcom outsourcing or rebooting DMC at this point, but they had Kazuma Kaneko's character design, and it's being traded for what? Surely they don't believe that ill-looking mugs are what rendered God of War successfull?
Bloody hell, western character design can be good (Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance, Half-Life 2...), but the Japanese, having already fucked up their landscapes and cityscapes, are about to fuck up their games' aesthetics with less venerable influences. Oh, and Bayonetta's artistic direction and character design leaves me cold too (even though I like the ladies in my games and usually play as one if I have a choice). The characters in Vanquish look OK, though.
So, I'm not biased against or forward Japanese or western design as such. The problem is, Capcom seems to be thinking that "western" means "bad looking" and "bad looking sells" (sadly, the latter isn't far from truth).

DMC 1 and 3 are two of my all time favorite games, with DMC3 easily being in my top five. DMC 2 was bad, DMC 4 was even worse. It is too early to judge the gameplay obviously (which makes or breaks a DMC game), but I agree that the new aesthetic is shit. That said, if they can put the mechanics and control of DMC3 into this game it would still be better than most other games in the genre (including the vastly overrated Bayonetta).
Seems Capcom has forgotten about all the rave reviews the character got from all the Western media.
Unless they didn't want to have to pay the original designers a single cent for this character, and that's why they went with the re-design.
However, I have high hopes that Capcom listens (Namco did with the Klonoa remake, and kept the original character design), and quickly scraps that... that... Kratos/Frankenstein/Rocky Horror Show reject model. Ipso facto.

PS - I've always wanted to love DMC, but have never really managed. All the games have crap level design and too much backtracking. I have real issues with Bayonetta, but beyond the dumb arcade tribute levels, they are exactly the same complaints I have against DMC. Personally I'd have no problem seeing this series die off, but apparently they're going to alienate all the fans first.

wow. I hated 4. That being said- I reallllly don't think the series needed a full reboot. 3 was Amazing as was 1- and 2 was good. 4 had it's good points as well.
But to do *this* to it? I wonder who approved that :/
I look forward to getting more information this. I'd like to see how gameplay stacks up to the initial knee jerk reaction towards it's looks.
