Trying to find an excellent SHMUP but I can't remember its name. I once had the demo but have since thrown it out I think anways heres what I can remember of it.
It was made by an Australian developer, side scrolling top down view in 3d but had set level extents. You could choose between a blue & red ship which different advantages / disadvantages between there weapon upgrades. I remember on the demo level the first boss was a mechanical type spider that would jump right on top of you if you didn't keep moving. I think it was only available as a online purchase.
If you've come across it please let me know. It got great reviews so I'm sure someone here should know of it.
Thanks

It's also available for purchase on the U.S. PSN site if you've got a PS3.

Back in it's PC incarnation "Astro Tripper" was Space Tripper by Pom Pom Games. I've got a copy somewhere, as well as their excellent Mutant Storm.
Space Tripper scrolls horizontally but in an arena, rather like being on the deck of a ship and there's a control to change your direction of motion from left to right. Don't remember that jumping spider though and don't think there were any bosses- you just cleared each level of popcorn.

The spider's definitely in the PC version too. On the whole, the changes introduced in the PS3 game are largely presentational.
Space Tripper's main source of inspiration always struck me as being Uridium, rather than Defender.
The two Mutant Storm games on the 360 are well worth getting hold of, if you've got the hardware. The second, which seems to have been largely ignored by most people (the first had at least some publicity) is like a marriage of the first game - an arena shooter - with Space/Astro Tripper.

I likened it to Defender because of the way you could change directions and enemies left alone become mutants and become twice as deadly....other than that, it really unique as far as shmups go.E. Thanks guys thats it. I actually lucked out & found the old space tripper demo on one of those big download sites amongst all the other rubbish stuff they have on there, I reconised it by the images. Once I had POMPOM I went to their site & then found Astro tripper & bought it, which they say is just a revamp of space tripper anyway, runs well on Win 7 64 which I can't say the same for the space tripper demo anymore.
As for Mutant storm Empire / Reloaded does anyone know where i can get a copy of either of those? They were looking at doing a pre-release for PC about a year ago http://pompomgames.com/?m=200908 but you still can't buy it off there web site. If there half as good as astro tripper they should be great.
thanks again for your help.

A demo of the original Mutant Storm is available here:
http://www.brothersoft.com/games/mutant-storm.html
No idea if it runs properly or not - I'm running Vista, unfortunately (yes, I know), and it manages to display the menu screen at something like half a frame every two seconds.
I forgot, but I also bought their PSP Minis game, Alien Zombie Death. That's pretty good fun, too.
