Dead Nation

Post by spadgy »

I spent a nice chunck of time playing this at the Housemarque office in Helsinki the other day, and i really didn't want it to stop.

Forthcoming PSN game - a little bit Shock Troopers, a little bit Chaos Engine (AKA Soldiers of Fortune), but with more pace.

Fast, intense, good scoring mechanics, and a pretty arcade-like feel overall. Certainly not as a pure arcade game as a textbook shmup, but it exactly delivers what Stardust did - a shooter where there's something to do every second, and where the momentum rarely drops.

You should keep an eye out for this one if you like top down run 'n' guns. Way better than I expected and not the third perso adventure game many of the current screen shots suggest.

EDIT: Oh look - here's a gameplay trailer.

Looks pretty cool actually!

I always liked Leon Kennedy in his Resi 2 outfit.

It honestly feels a lot more arcade-like than it's visuals suggest. Score multipliers and all sorts of energy.

Things that Alien Swarm honestly seemed to lack when I played it. Well, multipliers aren't for everybody, but that sort of design lends itself to dumb, easy fun replayability, quite often. Nothing groundbreaking but it works.

I wonder if the variety in zombies as as carefully engineered as that in Left 4 Dead games?

New zombie-themed arcade-style shooter? I sure hope this turns out better than Zombie Apocalypse did.

Zombie Apoc. wasn't too bad- just needed a little more time in the oven. There was a guy here that worked on it- had some awesome ideas that would've straightened that game out. a little more. The MP modes made it really really fun and helped it to not be sooo drawn out feeling.

That being said- Stardust is one of the best PSN games. I just need to figure out if I'm going to update my firmware in my phat and lose my linux, or not get the game (Dead Nation) : / Damn you sony haha.

Dead Nation looks amazing in motion- really excited about that one regardless.

How many Zombie/Alien overheads are there now? How many of them have actual bullet patterns instead of Gauntlet AI?
