Cave's Next port.. Probably not Pink Sweets..

Post by RetroRepair »

So the results of the latest online survey Cave held on the iPhone recently are in courtesy of Masa King and while most of the results are unsurprising, the last paragraph is interesting:
In our last entry we talked about our future iPhone applications,
so you guys have something to look forward to.
Something to get you through this hot summer, phew!
Just wait a little, really just a liiiiitle longer!

‘Til next time!

P.S. You guys really like Pink Sweets, don’t you??
A poke at how PS/Ibara is largely unloved or a hint of things to come?

Seems more likely that Futari is next since it's been hinted at for a while, but one thing is for sure, the love affair with the iPhone isn't over just yet.

I think that's the answer. But maybe would be fine a iPod version since I don't think we'll see another PS port.

Seems that they might split the market up.

On the Japanese side, DOJ, DFK and DDP/Ketsui were the top choices and Futari, Ketsui, DDP and Deathsmiles were the international top choices.

And here is a quote from the Japanese survey...
Alright, here are the rankings for games that you want us to port to the iPhone/iPod touch!
1st Dodonpachi Daioujou
2nd Dodonpachi Daifukkatsu
3rd Dodonpachi
3rd Ketsui ~Kizuna Jigokutachi~
As you can see, the Dodonpachi series occupied the top rankings, and tied with Ketsui at #3.
Dodonpachi do-do-doing well!! Now then, the ranks below that were:
5th Mushihimesama Futari
6th Mushihimesama
7th Espgaluda
8th Esp.ra.de
9th Deathsmiles
10th Deathsmiles II
…and that’s the top 10!
So OK!!! Now we have to talk about what’s next right?
Let’s spill the beans a little bit!
Actually it’s written right there!
It’s already in development!
It’s working!
We can’t say when it will be going on sale just yet though, sorry! (o_o);;
Please hold on for a little bit longer!
We’re working on a little something that should give you all a nice surprise.
See you next time!

...dude you gotta change the misleading thread title man. Clearly they're mocking the fact that it was so lowly ranked on the poll. Why would they bother asking for this marketing data if their objective was to port whatever they wanted or the lowest ranked goods? Furthermore, why would it become priority to port something to iPhone before making a standard port of the same title?

But it's not like MS7 was made touchscreen only. Not really a radical input change on the DS. To go from PCB to touchscreen only port is just crazy-different.

Dissapointing thread. The only reaction this news inspires is a belief that there will likely never be a Pink Sweets port. :(

I agree with Tonk. PS is too good to be watered down for the masses.

We'll get all the fluffy/pretty Cave games like Futari and Galuda on iPhone. Think about the durability of the new iPhone4, with glass on front and back. Now picture playing Yagawa's rank-based games on one of these fragile little devices. Seriously that's probably not a good idea.

Fuck iPhone ports.
That was cool and all for Esgaluda II, but if that means we will see a few ports on iPhone only, some people will have to die.

I could care less about any portable device ports.... Just hurry up and give me DDP DFK on the 360 already.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

I hope Cave abandons all arcade development and puts all their focus on iPhone. Mushi Bug Panic with the iP4 gyroscope could be really awesome.

Also, I'm thinking they could use the front-facing camera and facial recognition with the Yagawa ports. They could use this to judge your stress level and decide how far they can push the rank before your head explodes. When your eyes start to pop out, it could automatically snap a picture to post online. Then if you get mad and shake the phone, they gyro could detect this and reduce the rank.

If you throw the phone, the bumper can save it. If you throw it and can't find it, the GPS chip could help you locate the device.

So much potential here..

Agreed. Seeing a game get a portable version but no console one is UNFAIR. We've been through it with Progear and several others already. Console first, keitai later.
Kinect? KIN NOT.

That comment is poking fun at PS for sure.

Did Cave not mention that Mushimesama Futari would be the next port to iPhone?

Anyway, screw iPhone - if they are going to make handheld they should do another DS/DSi game like Ketsui Death Label. I guess the main kicker is the screen orientation on the iPhone.

I will be very sad to see if this is the general direction for Cave ports now - would love to see them port the rest of their library to the 360.

I don't know what everyone's got attitude for, Espgaluda 2 was great fun on the iPhone and there's no way these games are going to be exclusively released on the platform, I think Cave have made it fairly obvious by now that the 360 gets the ports first and foremost.

ESPG II on iPhone is leaps and bounds more playable than Ketsui on DS (imo).
