Losing before the battle begins -Defeating yourself mentally

Anyone have any particular games where certain opponents are more difficult for you than others? I'm not talking about bosses, but regular opponents.

Is it because the game is unbalanced in favor of that character, or might it be because you've already mentally decided that you'll be defeated (or at least have great difficulty)?

Here's my list:

Dead or Alive series - I always have trouble with Jann Lee no matter when I face him. Doesn't matter if he's first or next to last, I just have a hard time against him.

Power Stone - Falcon always seems to be able to get the best of me. Interestingly enough, I don't have trouble with him in PS2. It might be due to his stage in the first one that I have trouble.

Vampire Savior - Dimitri drives me nuts. I think he's a bit overpowered.

Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution - Akira and Brad are my two trouble spots. I've always had trouble with Akira through, starting with VF2.

Soul Calibur 2 - Rafael (one of the new guys) always proves a tough opponent.

Can this apply to shmups? Because there are certain bosses I always have trouble with.

Law or Eddy late in the higher levels of Tekken. Mainly Eddy that cheap whore.

The first one that comes to mind is that huge, Juggernaut-looking dude from Guilty Gear X. He always gives me a run for my money, even if he's my first opponent. I hate him so.

I find guilty gear X really hard especially Dizzy, I have never once beaten her in arcade mode on easy, I'm serious I can' beat her 2 times in a row, thinks its cos I'm really on combos instead of energy bar specials that I don't know how to do.....
