As cruel fate would have it, my J360 RRoD'd this week (the same week I get Senko DUO and Deathsmiles II ) so I think it's time to get a Jasper. Fortunately I have a friend holidaying there at the moment that could potentially pick one up for me if it's not too laborious a task. Just a couple of questions before jumping in:
What kind of cash should I be paying for a bare bones Japanese Jasper unit in Japan? Either new or used.
Is there an easy identifyer on the box to ensure he gets a Jasper? I know all units with internal memory are Jaspers but is that listed on the box/unit?
Any chance you could ask said friend to pick up two bare bones units - I'd be happy to pay them some extra for the back breaking incurred. I don't need any of the leads n' stuff and would be happy with a second hand Jasper unit.
I'd say you have a 99% chance of any 360 on the shelf being a Jasper at this point. It's been more than long enough for stock to completely rotate out. (If anything, we're just waiting to see when the next hardware revision will be announced...)
As you've said, if you're buying an Arcade, the box will say it has 256mb of internal storage, rather than the 256mb memory unit that shipped with Falcon Arcade models. I don't have the exact wording but this should be a fairly easy distinction for someone who can read Japanese.\
On another note, is your current J360 still under warranty? People on this forum have reported success using the local repair facilities to repair out-of-region units, so long as it is specifically noted to be an out-of-region unit.
SkyKid: I think one 360 is already an imposition. I wouldn't feel comfortable pushing it to two. Sorry guy.
StarCreator: Thanks for the info. I did try and enter my serial number on the repair section of xbox.com and it returned an invalid message. Do you have to register your 360 on there first to flag up on the repair database?
I know my machine is dated from 2006 so it's well out of warranty, even their three year extended one.

I don't know about the box itself, but he can probably check the current rating as described here (old link, but I'm hoping it applies to J360s currently for sale). If it's 12.1A, it's a Jasper.
