Dolphin? What is this? I'm one of the few dummies that still has a Gamecube...I would love to put it back to work.

That's the exact opposite to the point.ROBOTRON wrote:Dolphin? What is this? I'm one of the few dummies that still has a Gamecube...I would love to put it back to work.
Dolphin is a Wii and Gamecube emulator for PC.
Unless you have a really insane high end machine, you can pretty much forget about it.
But it can do Wii games in 1080p with antialiasing up the arse, so it's really neat if it works.
Saw some breathtaking screenshots.
Edit: Awrite, here you go, freshly stolen from Neogaf:
Monster Hunter 3
Super Smash Bros Brawl
F-Zero GX
Resident Evil 4
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart Wii
Zack & Wiki
P.N.03
And another shot from F-Zero because i really like to torture you.

You can pretend the Gamecube is talking to you, if you open and close the lid.ROBOTRON wrote:Ah.....oh well, My Gamecube will continue to be a pet rock.

That Monster Hunter Tri shot makes me weak in the knees.
FULL LOCK is BOMB
Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
What shmups do you mean? There's Ikaruga and Radirgy and Chaos field, but you can play those in a DC emulator (though the GC versions do have some extra modes). The Shikigami no Shiro games are available on PC. So if you've got a PC, there are easier ways to play those games. The only exclusive game that comes to mind is Blast Works (and you can get tumiki fighers for free on the PC). What shmups am I forgetting?

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
well on wii theres illvelo and radirgy noir which i really want to buy but really dont want a god damn wii.
Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
Awesome, I had no idea such an emulator existed. I just tried out Sin & Punishment 2, my PC with C2D E7500 / 9800GT runs it at 27 FPS with the CPU load right up at 100%. A standard Xbox 360 controller maps pretty well for this emulator.
I never played S&P2 before this, can't wait to get my Wii and game back out of storage.
I had to run F-Zero GX at frameskip 2. Not great on my modest system, but very promising. I'll have a reason to upgrade to i7 now

I already do that with the toilet lid...I don't need the Gamecube for that.Jockel wrote:You can pretend the Gamecube is talking to you, if you open and close the lid.ROBOTRON wrote:Ah.....oh well, My Gamecube will continue to be a pet rock.

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
the emulator works really well haven't tried any shmups in it yet but muramasa demon sword looks stunning. like it was mentioned you are going to need a good pc to get it running.
Sin and Punishment 2 works but take some setting up to get all the controls working, and you got the bonus of being able to use a wii remote.

I don't think it's possible to play online, being an emulator and all. There goes half of Monster Hunter.8 1/2 wrote:That Monster Hunter Tri shot makes me weak in the knees.

those fzero pics are jawdropping
i am 'investigating' further now....come on gts250....dont fail me now!

odd...... the emu crashes with the 'copy' of fxero gx i have....its fine right up until after all the memory card stuff and then it crahses every time, no matter how i configure stuff
i have a fairly beefy system...this should work
any advice?
PM if necessary

Are any GCN shmup titles playable with this Dolphin emulator?

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
Whoooo! Just got Dolphin 3.0 running on XP SP3 and been playing Geometry Wars Galaxies and Illvelo.
Truth is it's got quite hefty system reqs and these days it'd be cheaper to buy a Wii than a PC with the specs this needs but nonetheless this is awesome and it really does the job.
GWG is just about playable on our old 3.0Ghz P4 (1Gb Ram, GeForce 6200 256Mb) but Illvelo only gives 30fps at best.
However on our new dual core Athlon (x2 3.0Ghz, 2Gb Ram, GeForce 8500GT 1Gb) GWG plays at 100% and Illvelo runs 47-60fps in a really playable way.
And it really makes a difference getting the config right for each system.
Only discovered Makaron and Dolphin in the past week so I wonder what's next eh?

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
I've known about this for a while and tried the latest svn release recently but still no good for optimisation. Pokemon Collosseum of all games won't run fullspeed on my dual-core 2.8 ghz computer nor my newish AMD 2.21 ghz dual core with an nVIDIA GeForce 7600 GT. Frankly I think the games should be more than capable of running on it at minimum native settings on such a device with some optimisation efforts.
Also, my own dump of TimeSplitters 2 seems to not play its audio correctly in Dolphin for some reason. Considering I still use the real game on a real disc it doesn't help my lack of faith in the emulator.

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
As of right now, is it better to go with the stable 3.0 release or with the daily builds?
Got a rather beefy system right now, but i still couldn't get Zelda TP to run at full speed @1080p & 3x scaling.
But that's on a build that's 2 months old - I just doubt that they improved the emulator so much in such a short time.
My specs are 4x 3.0ghz (3.4ghz if i OC it), 4GB of DDR3-1333 and a GTX460.
Oh yeah and if you need daily svn builds for anything, check www.emucr.com

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
Well I'm running build r7673 and playing Milestone Shooting Collection 2 here with no problems, and Geometry Wars Galaxies and Illvelo both good too.
Maybe the current Dolphin is just very fussy about systems, but tweaking the config (especially enabling dual core and idle frameskip as well as having the right sound codecs for faster performance and kicking down the graphics) has made all the difference

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
I think we have our culprit right there.mjclark wrote:kicking down the graphics
If i wanted to play with the same graphic fidelity as the Wii, I'd use my Wii.
So playing on non-enhanced settings is not an option for me.
Maybe I should just tone it down a notch.
Will report back in.

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
Never mind Emu-CR which my antivirus says has malware on it's front page, the official website does near-daily compiles just on their downloads page anyway - http://www.dolphin-emulator.com/download.html
Going by the latest notes it looks like stability fixes more than anything which is great because I found it to crash regularly the last time I used it too (a few weeks ago). Also, I'm not sure if this is with Dolphin or PCSX2 cant remember which I read but apparently the emulator doesn't and cannot take advantage of more than 2 CPUs, so bit of a bottleneck there.
I'll give this till tomorrow after I pack my things for the 9-day trip I'm doing and then test it out a bit myself with my games.

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
ikaruga worked poorly on my 4 year old comp (vista 2g ram gforce 8600gt dualcore 1.8gh).
zelda gc worked fine.
I guess with any decent computer every gc game run great now.
edit:resident evil remake ran horribly idk why.

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
I guess it's very much hit and miss with the current Dolphin then and it seems like it's quite hardware specific.
The only Wii exclusive shmups are Star Soldier R and Illvelo (which was what got me looking at Dolphin in the first place)- every other Wii shmup can be played at home on another system/emulator.
Star Soldier R isn't properly emulated anyway since it's in .wad format but Illvelo's playing really well here as are Milestone's other cell shaders.
Don't think Star Soldier R's up to much and the arcade version of Illvelo will be playable in Demul 0.5.7 when it's released but until then this remains a very interesting project.

The Wii also has Blast Works and Gradius Rebirth.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Re: Wii & gamecube shmups in Dolphin,
Just get a real Wii mjclark.
You can play all of the shmups on the emulators available for it (and MAME but no further than 1990 really) and there's also Kobo Deluxe and OpenTyrianWii.

And Illvelo's a proper blast- these adventures in Makaron and Dolphin have given me a real taste for Triangle Service and Milestone
